Meet The Team #17. Doug - Adventurers In Music Mondays 7-10pm. Adventurers In The Past Tuesday 7-10pm. Icons Of Music Wednesdays 7pm. Adventurers In Rock 7-10pm Thursdays.
Hi, I'm Doug and I currently present three shows a week 7-10 pm on Monday - Mixed music , a bit of anything , Tuesday- Oldies 1956-1980, and Thursday - Rock , and contribute regularly to the hour long Icons of Music show.
I was born with the number one sound of Wonderful Land by The Shadows in my ears and have loved music ever since. At the age of 13 I was running discos at my father's work's social club. At 16 I formed my first band "I am 6 " a punk outfit, followed closely by a spell with Cire where I experienced playing my first live gigs around South London. When my younger brother was old enough, we formed Snakebite with two other musicians. We played gigs around London and cut four singles for a demo. Unfortunately the record label folded before we got the chance to issue anything and the cost signalled the end for the band. I formed a further band Revenge which was also short lived. For some time I engaged in some private roadie work including the Nelson Mandela gig, encountering Fish, Dire Straits and Stevie Wonder, I also worked on tours featuring Bruce Springsteen, The Everly Brothers, and Jerry Lee Lewis . During this time I was also working firstly at Octopus Records in Streatham and then The Record and Tape Exchange in various London branches. I started Dive Into Yesterday oldies discos but following a back injury sustained at work, I became unable to manage the heavy lifting of equipment . Instead I did some guest singing with friends' bands , Billy Ray Bans , Jemimahs' Window, Dirty Dogs , The Thing Is and The Mumpties. I moved to Bognor around 2005 and began volunteering at several charity shops pricing records before joining the then Radio Respect, I believe I am now the longest serving member of the team and having been fortunate enough to see hundreds of live bands in venues from Wembley Stadium to relatively small pubs , I still love discovering new music and introducing people to the music of artists and bands they might never have heard of. I strongly believe music is beneficial to mental health and am proud to be part of a community radio station that endeavours to provide a wide variety of shows and genres for everyone to enjoy.
