Thank you for making Devizes Opendoors possible.
For many years, Devizes Opendoors has offered a non-judgemental welcome, practical support and advocacy to those facing some of life’s most difficult circumstances. We create a warm, welcoming and safe space for our guests, providing a comfortable place to listen without judgement.
Each week, we facilitate sessions providing a wide range of practical help, including access to tasty, nutritious cooked meals, hot showers, a clothing store, IT services and a registered address. We also connect rough sleepers with third-party agency support, including dental aid, addiction support and advocacy services.
Our staff and volunteers build relationships, listen and help people navigate lives that can be complex and challenging. They understand that vulnerability rarely comes neatly packaged, and that supporting someone through difficult circumstances takes time, patience and trust.
That insight comes from knowing people and their circumstances, rather than simply seeing what may be visible from the outside.
Of course, every community faces challenges, including antisocial behaviour. Devizes Opendoors does not condone, excuse or minimise behaviour that intimidates, harms or negatively impacts other people, local residents, businesses or the wider community. We expect everyone who uses or engages with our service to treat others with respect, and we take concerns about the impact of behaviour seriously. At the same time, it is important that these challenges are seen in the context of a much bigger picture and not allowed to obscure the very different, often unseen, work taking place at Devizes Opendoors every week.
A sincere and heartfelt thank you to our staff and volunteers, who give so much of their time, patience and care. Their commitment makes a real difference to the people who come through our doors.
