In a proactive step towards achieving a drug-free community under the visionary state initiative of "Nasha Mukth Sikkim", a significant operation was successfully carried out within the lower belt of Ghaiyabari Ward under the jurisdiction of 29-Martam GPU. The initiative, driven by the united resolve of the 29-Martam Gram Panchayat Unit, was spearheaded under the smart and vigilant supervision of the Ward Panchayat, Mr. Gyan Prasad Sharma, with strong coordination from the local police authorities of the Bermiok Police Picket Post.

On the morning of 30th July 2025, the GPU staff alongside the police personnel jointly conducted a strategic field operation targeting the illegal cultivation of ma*****na plants, which had been reported by concerned local residents. The entire operation was conducted lawfully, keeping in mind public interest and community welfare. After thorough sensitization and verification, all ma*****na plants discovered in the vicinity were rooted out and disposed of responsibly as per the legal protocols.

This initiative not only reflects the GPU’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding public health and community values but also sends a strong message of zero tolerance against the cultivation and abuse of narcotic substances.

Following the successful mission, the Honourable Panchayats of the 29-Martam GPU have collectively urged the general public, all stakeholders, licensed vendors, NGOs, youth clubs, and village-based organizations to stand united in the war against drugs and substance abuse. A collaborative community effort is deemed vital to protect the future of the younger generation and to preserve the peace and sanctity of the region.

A Special Joint Awareness Program on “Drug Abuse and Substance Control” under the theme “Nasha Mukt Sikkim”, along with an awareness session on Smart Meter Installation by the Power Department, Government of Sikkim, was successfully conducted at the 29-Martam GPU with enthusiastic public participation and impactful presentations.

The program was chaired by Smt. Bishnu Maya Chettri, Honourable Panchayat President, accompanied by Smt. Sumira Limboo, Honourable Vice President, and Shri Gyan Prasad Sharma, Honourable Panchayat Member.

The event featured distinguished resource persons including Medical Officers from Dentam PHC, PI Aita Hang Limboo, SHO Dentam Police Station, and Advocate Shri Pradeep Sharma , MVI shri Passang Chodup Sherpa as the special guest and legal expert. Dr. Goma Chettri, representing the Medical Council, sensitized the attendees on the medical impacts of drug and substance abuse. PI Aita Hang Limboo delivered a detailed and visual PowerPoint presentation addressing various legal, social, and enforcement aspects. Advocate Pradeep Sharma provided powerful legal insights and shared real-life legal testimonials.

The program was actively attended by school heads, students, local NGOs, clubs, and Power Department officials, with the Smart Meter awareness session being well-received for its emphasis on digital efficiency and sustainable energy usage.

Adding to the spirit of gratitude and encouragement, a special gesture of momentos as the token of appreciation was presented to the esteemed resource persons in appreciation of their valuable contributions to the cause.

The entire event was professionally anchored by Shri Sonam Palzer Sherpa, who served as the Master of Ceremony, ensuring seamless flow and engagement throughout the program.

In conclusion, the program stood out as a strong, informative, and community-impacting initiative, promoting a drug-free and energy-conscious society under the proactive leadership of the 29-Martam GPU.

In a proud moment for 29-Martam GPU, the Gram Panchayat has successfully delivered key public services under the e-Governance initiative. On 21st July 2025, the GPU issued Income Certificates to Mr. Dilli Ram Sharma, Mrs. Pushpa Maya Sharma, and Mr. Passang Namgyal Sherpa, and an OBC Certificate to Mr. Youvraj Chettri.

The applications were submitted online through the CSC Martam GPU, and promptly approved by the SDM Dentam Sub-Division, District Gyalshing. The certificates were ceremoniously handed over to the beneficiaries by the Honourable Panchayats of 29-Martam GPU, symbolizing the success of technology-driven governance.

The process was efficiently executed by Mr. Sonam Palzer Sherpa, Incharge of CSC and e-Governance , 29-Martam GPU, under the supervision of Mr. Pulkit (IAS), SDM (HQ), Gyalshing, and Mr. Lenus Sherpa, Assistant Director (IT), District Gyalshing.

This achievement highlights the GPU’s commitment to digital governance and public service accessibility at the grassroots level.
