||Chongtham Vikram’s Mortal Remains Arrive Home in Imphal.

Imphal, September 9, 2026: The mortal remains of renowned Manipuri musician and guitarist Chongtham Vikram Singh were brought to Imphal on Wednesday, where family members, friends and well-wishers gathered to receive him at Imphal International Airport.

The atmosphere remained sombre as mourners paid their respects to the veteran musician, who died in Delhi on September 7 following an alleged assault. Several mourners broke down as his body arrived in Manipur.

His mortal remains were taken to his residence at Thangmeiband Lourungpurel in Imphal West, where the last rites are scheduled to be performed. Delhi Police have arrested eight people in connection with the case.

Vikram Singh, a pioneer of Manipur’s early rock music scene and a respected music teacher, had lived in Delhi for nearly two decades. His death has sparked widespread grief and renewed calls for justice and greater safety for people from the Northeast.

BENGALURU: Manipur successfully defended their title, defeating West Bengal 3–1 in the final of the Junior Boys’ NFC for the Dr. B.C. Roy Trophy 2026–27 | Tier-1 at the Bengaluru Football Stadium, Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Manipur took an early lead through Heikrujam Jogesh Singh in the 25th minute, before Thiyam Jenson Meitei doubled the advantage in the 39th minute.

West Bengal fought back after the break, with Debraj Das scoring in the 52nd minute to reduce the deficit. However, Manipur sealed the championship when Muskan found the net in the 88th minute, securing a 3–1 victory.

The result makes Manipur back-to-back champions of the Dr. B.C. Roy Trophy, adding another national title to their impressive junior football record.

||Manipur Govt Accepts Resignation of Two 8th Waqf Board Members.

Imphal, September 8: The Government of Manipur has accepted the resignations of two members of the 8th Waqf Board, Manipur, with immediate effect.

According to an order issued by the Minority Affairs Department on September 8, 2026, Rajya Sabha MP Smt. A. Sharda Devi and Shri Koijam Modhusudon Singh submitted their withdrawal/resignation letters dated September 3 and September 4, respectively.

A. Sharda Devi had been appointed as a member of the Waqf Board by virtue of being a Member of Parliament, while Koijam Modhusudon Singh was appointed as a member from the Bar Council of the State.

The order stated that the Governor of Manipur has accepted the resignations of both members from the 8th Waqf Board, Manipur, with immediate effect.

||Two Arrested in Thangal Bazar Machete Mμrder Case.

Imphal, September 8: Manipur Police have arrested two persons in connection with the mμrder of a man from Borjalenga village in Silchar, Assam, who was allegedly k¡lled by having his neck s|ashed with a m@chete at Thangal Bazar on September 7, 2026.

The arrested accused have been identified as Yendrembam Paona Singh (60) and Laishram Ngongo Meitei (39), both residents of Kanglasiphai Makha Leikai.

According to Manipur Police, the investigation revealed that Yendrembam Paona Singh allegedly admitted to committing the cr¡me as an act of revenge following a fallout with the victim over alleged illicit dealings involving c0ntraband g@nja.

Police said the accused allegedly travelled to Thangal Bazar with the co-accused with the intention to mμrder the victim and allegedly used a m@chete to s|ash his neck. Bl00d-stained clothes allegedly worn during the incident have been seized, while a two-wheeler reportedly used to reach the crime scene has also been recovered.

Further investigation is in progress.

Imphal, September 8: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan arrived at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal today as part of his visit to Manipur.

Upon his arrival at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, he was received by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, and other senior dignitaries.

The Vice President was also accorded a Guard of Honour upon his arrival.

||Rahul Gandhi Demands Swift Justice for Slain Manipuri Musician Chongtham Vikram Singh.

New Delhi, September 8: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has demanded a swift investigation and justice following the death of renowned Manipuri musician and music teacher Chongtham Vikram Singh, who was allegedly beaten to death outside his home in Delhi.

In a post on social Media,Rahul Gandhi said Vikram Singh had gone downstairs to ask a group of men to lower the noise outside his residence but was allegedly assaulted and beaten to death. He described the incident as deeply concerning and raised questions about the safety of people from the Northeast living in the national capital.

“A father, killed outside his own home, in his own country’s capital,” Gandhi said, adding that many Northeast families in Delhi were now asking whether they were safe.

Rahul Gandhi also questioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Delhi Police over what he described as growing lawlessness and called for the culprits to be brought to justice.

According to reports, eight suspects, including a minor, have been taken into custody in connection with the case. Delhi Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.

||Manipur Music Teacher’s Death Sparks Outrage; Candlelight Vigil Held in Delhi.

New Delhi,7 Sept 2026: A 54-year-old music teacher and musician from Manipur, Chongtham Vikram, died after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of men outside his residence in Kilokari village in southeast Delhi.

According to reports, Vikram objected to shouting, drinking and alleged nuisance caused by delivery workers and dhaba staff outside his home. The argument reportedly escalated into a violent assault, during which he was allegedly beaten with fists and blows.

His son, Yaiphaba, rushed him to Holy Family Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, police said. Police have detained eight suspects, including a minor, in connection with the incident.

Vikram was a well-known figure in Manipur's Western music scene. He had performed as a guitarist with bands including Ultra Vires, Phoenix and Eastern Dark.

The incident has sparked outrage among members of the Northeast community, Student organisations and civil society groups, who have demanded that all those responsible be identified and brought to justice.

A candlelight vigil in loving memory of Chongtham Vikram was held today at Chauhan Park, near the Axis Bank ATM in Phase 1, Sunlight Colony, by members of the Manipuri and Northeast communities.

||2 Killed, 5 Critical as Building Collapses in Delhi; Home Minister Takes Stock.

New Delhi, September 6, 2026: At least two people were killed and five others were left in critical condition after a five-storey building collapsed in Delhi's Satya Niketan area on Sunday, officials said. Several people were feared trapped under the debris as rescue operations continued.

The building, reportedly used as a paying guest accommodation, collapsed in the South-West Delhi locality, triggering a massive emergency response. Teams from the Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other agencies were deployed to search for survivors and clear the rubble.

According to preliminary reports, repair or construction work was underway in the building's basement at the time of the collapse. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the incident.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed distress over the tragedy and said he had spoken with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Police Commissioner and the NDRF Director General to assess the situation. He said the local administration and NDRF were carrying out intensive rescue operations in close coordination, while the injured were being provided necessary medical assistance.

Rescue operations were continuing as authorities worked to locate and evacuate anyone still trapped beneath the debris.
