Residents at a public participation forum in Machakos County Social Hall expressed anger over MCAs’ absence, calling it poor leadership. They said some MCAs only came briefly to greet people before leaving, accusing the assembly of being out of touch and the worst in recent years. The Budget Committee Chair was also criticized for leaving soon after arriving. Deputy Speaker Stephen Mwanthi was the only MCA who stayed to the end. He acknowledged the public’s concerns were valid and promised they would be considered in the budget views.

It is a relief for one family from Mua, Machakos County, after the county government intervened and waived the hospital debt that had been a challenge for them. The family now thanks the county government under the leadership of Governor H.E. Wavinya Ndeti, saying they could not have paid the amount demanded on their own.Abednego Muendo was admitted to Machakos Level Five Hospital after being involved in an accident, and the person who hit him remains unidentified to date. He had accumulated a debt of more than KSh 400,000 .

Farmers have been encouraged to turn up in large numbers to gain new and diverse agricultural knowledge at the agribusiness exhibition that will be held at the Machakos County Agricultural Showground. This year’s exhibition aims to educate farmers on new methods of advancing their farming to cope with climate change, with the goal of increasing profits in agribusiness. This is according to Lawrence Matolo, chairperson of the South Eastern Show, Lower Eastern branch. He spoke during a meeting with exhibitors to discuss how they will run the exhibition on that day.

A 55-year-old man, Abednego, is being held at Machakos Level Five Hospital over an unpaid medical bill of KSh 409,095.
He was hit in a hit-and-run on the Makutano–Machakos road on Jan 18, 2026, and treated for severe injuries, including a broken limb. He was cleared for discharge on April 23, 2026, but has stayed in hospital for nearly a month because his family can’t raise the bill. The family isn’t registered with SHA, and their 85-year-old widowed mother can’t afford the cost. They’re appealing to well-wishers for help.Machakos Governor, through Health Minister Justus Kasivu, has promised to intervene to secure Abednego’s discharge.

The Machakos County government, through the Ministry of Health, is continuing to put in place comprehensive plans to ensure that healthcare is improved in all hospitals in the Machakos county. This is according to Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti when she visited Machakos Level 5 Referral Hospital to inspect various development projects at the hospital, including the commissioning of new medical equipment aimed at improving response and saving lives across the county and the official opening of accommodation buildings for health officers, among many others.

Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has warned the government against using hired goons to disrupt Linda Mwananchi rallies.The legislator advised the state to accept that Linda Mwananchi is now in the political ring for top leadership, just like the government itself, and should therefore ensure a level playing field for all contenders in the 2027 race.Speaking after attending a church service at Light Christian Church in Machakos Town, Makau also urged the Machakos County Police Commander to guarantee security for the Linda Mwananchi faction ahead of their planned rally in Machakos this Sunday.Makau noted that Linda Mwananchi is resonating not only with the youth but with Kenyans across all walks of life. He admitted, however, that the movement’s strong appeal to the youth is natural, given that Kenya’s youthful population forms the majority.The Linda Mwananchi team is expected to tour Mutituni, Machakos Town, and Mlolongo during their end-week rallies in Machakos.

57 protestors arrested during anti-fuel hike demos in Machakos onx Monday and Tuesday were released on KSh 5,000 cash bail each. The court rejected a defense request to block pleas over defective charge sheets, and the accused were charged with road encroachment and conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor. 35 pleaded not guilty, with their bail reduced from KSh 15,000 to KSh 5,000. Senior Resident Magistrate Dorcas Endoo set return dates for June 3 and July 2, 2026, when instructions and the hearing will begin. Lawyers said about 200 protestors were arrested in Machakos during the 2-day matatu strike.

Machakos gubernatorial aspirant hon. Nzioka Waita and Machakos Town MP hon. Caleb Mule presided over the ground-breaking for the construction of the new Deputy County Commissioner’s office in Kalama Sub-County.During the event, Waita said he has a vision to end corruption in Machakos if elected governor. He appeared to criticize Governor H.E Wavinya Ndeti and her administration for perpetuating high levels of corruption.Machakos Town MP hon.Caleb Mule said building the office is one way of bringing government services closer to citizens and avoiding unnecessary costs incurred while seeking essential government services.Their remarks were supported by Kalama Mca hon.Bonface Maeke and Mua ward Mca hon. Francis Ngunga, who criticized Machakos parliamentary aspirant Victor Munyaka. They said his 15 years in leadership are enough, and that others can now advance government work. They claimed that his intention to return to government hides a secret agenda to undermine it.

Transport fares will remain high even after President William Ruto announced a Ksh 10 reduction in fuel prices.The leader of matatu operators from the Lower Eastern region (MAMOA), Onesmus Kyalo, has welcomed the move but says that even when the changes take effect next month, fares will remain unchanged.Speaking in Machakos, Kyalo said the president’s announcement did not meet their expectations, as they had hoped for fuel prices to be reduced by Ksh 46.However, Kyalo welcomed the president’s directive allowing matatu operators to put graffiti/artwork on their vehicles, saying the sector has also helped create jobs for youth.He added that removing the high taxes on the importation of electric vehicles would strengthen the matatu sector, noting that the Lower Eastern region has only 3% of electric vehicles.
