Machakos County Governor, H.E.Wavinya Ndeti, has called on the National Government to hold talks with university lecturers over the ongoing strike to find an amicable solution.Wavinya said that if the strike continues, many students will continue to suffer due to disruption of learning.She was speaking in Mbiuni Ward, Machakos County, during a development tour to inspect various projects.At the same time, Wavinya urged farmers to prepare early for the anticipated rains by ensuring they have resilient seeds to withstand the rains and achieve better yields.

Learning has been paralyzed at Machakos University after teaching staff joined their counterparts in a nationwide strike called by the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) to protest the non-implementation of the 2025-2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).Led by the university's UASU Secretary General, Martin Kasina, the lecturers announced the withdrawal of their labour following the expiry of a seven-day strike notice issued last week.Among their key grievances is opposition to the proposed university financing model that requires individual universities to finance lecturers' salaries through students' levies.
