Celebrating exclusive design by Jishang Space Design

In the adventure of how design expresses our emotional connection to our existence in the spaces we inhabit through time and life, one of Jishang Space Design’s 2025 completed projects is not just another spectacular interior design project or an elaboration of spatial concepts. In their words, “It’s a philosophical exploration of what it means to exist, the passage of time, and how our lives can attain a deeper level of perception and understanding through the spaces we inhabit on a daily basis.” Jishang Space Deign redefined what it means to dwell by breaking accepted boundaries, blurring the functions of interconnected rooms, and implementing materials and strategies for capturing time, while transforming the space into a living, evolving organism which grows in harmony alongside its residents through their inventive design concept.

By exploring a design concept that responds to individuals, Jishang Space Design conceived their latest project, the Scholarly Mountain-view Villa, a three-storey 700-square-meter’s residence located on a pristine, secluded site on the outskirts of Hangzhou, China. Sitting adjacent to a nearby mountain range set within a landscape of lush greenery, the site offers quietly stunning views of its surroundings from within an interior carefully tailored to its client’s unique daily needs and habits.

The lead designer of the exclusive project Ding Linji who is the founder of Jishang Space Design induced the concept of space created as a specific response to the people who will use the building as resident, instead of attempting to meet an arbitrary, universal standard. He focused on residents’ essential requirements for the functioning of the interior: a flexible dialogue between people and space, as opposed to conventional ideas of how a house should be arranged. His approach comes from a desire to express a vision of space rooted in human experience and emotional resonance, as well as philosophical depth expressed through the idea of living with art.

THE C-OF-O OF EDO MUSEUM OF WEST AFRICAN ART (MOWAA) DESIGNED BY ARCHITECT DAVID ADJAYE HAS BEEN REVOKED BY THE STATE GOVERNMENT

In a recent development following the crisis that dramatically breaks out during the opening ceremony of the newly completed Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) last Sunday in Benin City the capital of Edo State, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Edo State Monday Okpebholo revoked the certificate of occupancy (C-of-O) which was initially issued to the Museum. The C-of-O revocation announcement came almost 24 hours after the tensions experienced at the opening ceremony and the initial exhibition of the museum. An event that welcomed foreign diplomats like the ambassadors of the European Union and Germany, as protesters that many believed were politically motivated to disrupt the event stormed the venue in surge numbers.

Buildace Magazine gathered that part of the reasons for the C-of-O revocation by the state government were public disagreement with the exclusive project, indicating objection from King Ezelekhae Ewuare II, the King of Benin, as a result of the demolition of the Central Hospital in the city to secure enough land for the museum, and other reasons, including irregularities.

According to Governor Okpebholo, in his revocation order, the land allocated to the museum (MOWAA) has been reclaimed by the state as a result of negligence of public interests and irregularities surrounding the project. He further promised that the land will be restored to its original public health purpose. The governor stated that his administration was not informed of the presence of some foreign delegations visiting the state for projects like MOWAA. To him, this is another example of irregularities that has trailed the museum project from the beginning.

In response, the Director of MOWAA Phillip Ihenacho described the situation as saddened, as he believes that this moment can lead to renewed dialogue that can help the parties with understanding to explore the full potential of MOWAA in representing Nigeria and Africa.

The question is how did all these come about? In architecture exclusive projects like MOWAA require serious consultations at the designing stage. You have to consult the state government, the monarchs, the community, and you have to travel to the region in order to understand the traditional building practice and the cultural heritage of the people etc. before designing. Adjaye Associates, one of the global renowned architectural firms led by Sir. David Adjaye designed the project a few years ago and it was well praised globally as a bold step into reclaiming stolen African arts when the firm unveiled the design. What really happened along the line?

CRISIS ERUPTED AT THE OPENING CEREMONY OF EDO MUSEUM OF WEST AFRICAN ART DESIGNED BY ARC. DAVID ADJAYE

As part of a new initiatives that seems to rediscover the history of Benin City, the capital of Edo State in Nigeria. Adjaye Associates, a global renowned architectural firm led by Sir David Adjaye designed this project Edo Museum of West African Art (EMOWAA) few years ago. A unique cultural and economic driven project which is now completely built in Benin City, Nigeria.

According to , a politically mobilized crisis has stolen the momentum of the opening ceremony of the great project as protester stormmed the event that has dignitaries from all over the world in attendance, chanting war songs and distabilizing the progress of the event as the Nigerian security agencies quickly guide the dignitaries and all other attendants to safety.

With the current vast advancement in artificial intelligence AI, the profession of photography could resort to obsolete situations in the near future. The question is, in an era where everyone is a photographer, is architecture photography as common? The unique Lens of Iwan Baan has the answer. Architecture photography is not what anyone can just assume or take up as a profession, you must understand how architecture communicates through aesthetics and emotions, you must be very creative, detailed, inventive with lens, and professionally know how.

LACMA unveiled the new architectural centerpiece of David Geffen Galleries, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art designed by Peter Zumthor, as the art installation begins ahead of the grand public opening in April 2026. Capturing the horizontal, elevated structure in glass and concrete, the architecture photography of the exclusive project by Iwan Baan offers the first interior looks at the museum’s 10,220-square-meter exhibition level, as LACMA is currently preparing to welcome the public to some selected areas of the new building starting from this summer, pontificating towards a gradual process of activating the most ambitious architectural transformation in its history.

Lithuania's Vilnius airport new arrivals terminal innovatively designed with induction of pleated timber roof by Zaha Hadid Architects, one of the global renowned architectural firms that won the international competition to design the project. Conceived as a broader transportation vision in Lithuania, and also as one of the main gateways for the Baltic region, the exclusive project is a strategic expansion of the airport that will accommodate over 1.6 million passengers per year. An infrastructural landmark that aligns with Vilnius’ long-term urban masterplan. The crucial aspect of Zaha Hadid Architects proposal is the inventive sculpted timber roof structure made of sodai ornaments that tops the terminal. This was inspired by the traditional Lithuanian craft and folklore.

In line with Louis Vuitton’s intent from transoceanic journey, OMA conceptualized a historical journey through objects by evoking architecture and dreamscape. Like a modernist ship at anchor, the inventively designed boat-like building structure brings together a multi-story flagship store, Le Café Louis Vuitton, and the world's most creative fashion designer brand’s Visionary Journeys exhibition, packed within a surreal façade of metallic Monogram hulls and stacked trunks. The Louis strongly honors Louis Vuitton’s maritime roots as it’s located on Wujiang Road, while anchoring itself in Shanghai’s historic identity as a port city.
