Malacaรฑang defended the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)โs assertion that P500 is sufficient for a Noche Buena meal, despite criticism regarding its realism amidst financial hardships faced by workers. Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro emphasized that the main issue is whether the budget is feasible, with support from experts like Steve Cua. The DTI clarified that P500 can cover a basic meal for a family of four, noting not everyone celebrates lavishly.
In contrast, Antipolo Bishop Ruperto Santos criticized the government's stance, asserting that the budget undermines the spirit of Noche Buena, a sacred gathering. He argued for concrete government actions to reduce commodity prices rather than promote an unrealistic viewpoint and urged the public to focus on love and faith during the holiday season, stating that the true essence of Christmas lies in the presence of Christ rather than in material abundance.
