Our First production, To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday.
With just 2 days of tech at a venue in which he had never worked, Peter transformed our very Black box in November into a late summer beachfront in Martha's Vineyard. With his meticulous textured daytime golds to those oh so gorgeous evening blues. It was magical.

It is with deep sadness that we share this news.
On Saturday, August 1st our dear colleague and friend, Peter Caress passed away . He was just 50 years old. Peter was our Resident Lighting Designer and a member of our Board of Directors. He was there from the start and designed all but one of our 14 productions. His artistry, but even more, his loyalty, kindness and generosity of spirit are irreplaceable. He will be missed beyond words.

Our Story

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Peter's Alley is Back and BETTER than ever!

PETER’S ALLEY INC.

2018 was truly transformative for the company as we took a GIANT leap forward, successfully incorporating as a Non-Profit (501 (c) (3) Organization. This step will elevate our professional status and greatly expand our access to avenues of fiscal growth and development. But the biggest gift of incorporation is the creation of our Working Board of Directors: Artistic Director Aly B. Ettman, Alison Bauer, Peter Caress, Jenna Murphy and Dan Remmers, otherwise known as the Alley Cats? Ok, we’ll work on it! This talented group brings valuable business acumen and a collective enthusiasm along with their formidable creative skills. Additionally, longtime patron and President of Friends of Southwest DC, Ms.Coralie Farlee, has agreed to serve as our Board Member- At- Large. It is beyond inspiring for all of us to collaborate with colleagues and friends who share such a strong passion and vision for Peter’s Alley.

"Galileo said that mathematics is the language with which God has written the Universe, and to understand mathematics is to understand God. Peter's Alley’s 'Proof' brings human interests into that realm by orchestrating a beautifully crafted script full of hope in uncertain times where we could all use a bit of order." Peter's Alley returns to the stage with the Pulitzer Prize–winning 'Proof' by David Auburn, playing October 8 to 31, 2021, at Theatre on the Run in Arlington. One of the most acclaimed plays in recent years, the piece explores the unknowability of love as much as it does the mysteries of mathematics. Click for details!

In a recent chat, Aly B. Ettman spoke about “the big step” move to The Writer’s Center for Peter's Alley, as well as the company’s first production in its new venue. With the move, they aim “to engage with our community in Bethesda and appeal to the younger DC based theater artists who rely on public transportation.” The new venue is walkable from the Metro and has nearby restaurants.
