On the 9/11/25 episode of YOUR LEGACY, YOUR WAY, Attorney Carolyn Duncan at Duncan Legal, PC, provides the answers to a text question we received about Trusts. The listener wanted to know the difference between a Revocable Trust and an Irrevocable Trust?
Carolyn explains the key differences between revocable and irrevocable trusts, and why each is used in estate planning.
Revocable trusts are flexible, allowing changes during the grantor’s lifetime, and are commonly used to avoid probate, maintain privacy, and ensure smooth management if the grantor becomes incapacitated. Irrevocable trusts, by contrast, are permanent and often used for asset protection, Medicaid planning, tax reduction, or charitable giving.
We also highlighted other specialized trusts—such as special needs, charitable, spendthrift, and life insurance trusts—that help families address unique circumstances and ensure assets are managed and passed on as intended.
Free 30-minute consultation. Carolyn says her motto is “Helping People Solves Life’s Puzzles.”
