After 2024’s victorious live ritual, NWN!, Hospital Productions, and Iron Bonehead are returning to Japan in 2027 for three full days of sonic extremism. The Never Surrender/Hospital Fest will take place on April 9-11 in Osaka, with each of the three labels presenting 10 of the best artists from their respective rosters and associated allies. The lineup is currently fully booked and confirmed, with the following artists slated to headline and 20 more to be announced in coming weeks:

NWN! DAY 4/11:

-REVENGE (Canada) – Their first excursion in Japan will feature a special set including Conqueror material to commemorate 30 years of War Cult Supremacy

-ORDER FROM CHAOS (USA) – Reuniting in Osaka for the band’s final show 40 years after their formation

-ABRUPTUM (Sweden) – First ever live performance by the legendary Swedish act that, since 2000, has been led by Morgan “Evil” Håkansson

-WHITEHOUSE (UK) – The sound of being alive: William Bennett - Philip Best

-CORRUPTED (Japan) – Formed in 1994, the heaviest and darkest force in history breaks 11 years of silence, unleashing an unknown sonic world with its latest lineup

Following on the heels of his self-titled full-length and “Forest Poetry,” Ildjarn used his Norse League Productions label to release “Landscapes,” a double CD set containing over two hours of instrumental ambient keyboard music. While his black metal releases were polarizing, this album has proven to be divisive even among those who value his other work. Although synthesizers and keyboards have long been associated with black metal, “Landscapes” reflects an even greater stylistic departure, as the album bears virtually no obvious aesthetic relationship to the genre. It does, however, bear something of the imprimatur of Ildjarn. Whereas most of Ildjarn’s peers were more inclined to blend synth sounds with black metal, he deliberately separated them—as if one might contaminate the other—using guitar-based black metal to give voice to his antipathy for man, and synths to express his reverence for nature’s majesty. Like his black metal work, “Landscapes” is militantly simplistic and hauntingly hypnotic. It is also decidedly uncommercial, too dark and repetitious to appeal to most fans of ambient/new age music, and too light and ethereal for the majority of black metal fans. It does, however, rest nicely within the context of Ildjarn’s entire catalog, as it showcases the dichotomy of these sonic manifestations of his world view.
