Recently, we spent a little time looking at America through 250 years of art. 🇺🇸

The Saint Louis Art Museum’s Picturing Independence brings together works that explore what independence has looked like, meant—and sometimes questioned—throughout our history.

From George Washington and the moon landing to protest, Native American perspectives, folk art and the everyday objects that have helped tell our story, it’s a fascinating reminder that the American story has never been just one story.

Picturing Independence is on view at the Saint Louis Art Museum through January 24, 2027—and admission to the exhibition is free.

Worth seeing. And right here in St. Louis.

One of my favorite parts of publishing County Living is helping local businesses tell the story they've been too busy to tell.

Steve from Garden Green has been advertising with the magazine since long before I became the publisher. Like so many business owners, he's spent his time where it matters most—serving clients and creating beautiful work. His ad simply hadn't evolved alongside his business.

When I visited one of his projects, I expected to photograph flowers.

Instead, I found myself photographing a historic log cabin that had been moved from Defiance to Ladue and thoughtfully rebuilt as a pool house, peaceful gardens, a waterfall... and even a rabbit that wandered into the landscape at sunset.

It reminded me that Steve isn't just creating landscapes. He's creating places where people want to spend time.

That's what we're working to capture in the Fall issue. Through thoughtful photography and great design, we want every advertiser's brand to reflect the quality of the work they do every day.

Now comes one of my favorite parts—I can't wait to see how Drew Mangels brings these images together into a fresh new ad.

Some homes are beautiful. Others tell a story.

From a hidden speakeasy inspired by old-world Europe to handcrafted Venetian plaster walls that glow with warmth and character, every detail in this Kirkwood home was thoughtfully considered.

In our Summer issue, we featured the remarkable work of Summit Contracting, whose craftsmanship brought the homeowners' vision to life—blending timeless materials, custom finishes, and architectural details into spaces designed for gathering, conversation, and lasting memories.

If you've ever wondered what Venetian plaster looks like in a real home, these walls are a perfect example. Rich with depth, movement, and texture, they create a finish that simply can't be replicated with paint.
