In this episode of the Metal Command Show, I talk with legendary guitarist Alex Skolnick of Testament and Metal Allegiance for an in-depth conversation covering legacy, collaboration, and the upcoming Metal Allegiance show in January 22nd 2026.

Alex shares insight into his work with Metal Allegiance, discussing how the supergroup came together, the creative freedom behind the project, and what makes collaborating with some of metal’s most respected musicians such a unique experience. We also dive into the current state of Testament, reflecting on the band’s longevity, musical growth, and continued relevance in the thrash metal world plus other musical endeavors outside of the metal scene Alex has participated in.

This was the first time I had ever talked to him in the close to 28 years I have done this show. In the past I have always talked to Chuck or Eric and now I finally get a bucketlist interview off the board. Alex has a very fascinating and interesting musical background outside of the metal scene and we also touch a lot on that.

21 years ago I had an in person interview scheduled with Dimebag Darrel at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus Ohio. I hit a pothole on the highway driving from Cleveland to Columbus and blew out a tire and never made it to the show. Little did I know what would happen later that night.

RIP Dime.

In this podcast clip I review the new Alcatrazz album "Prior Convictions" in this podcast clip. Plus this includes commentary from Jimmy Waldo and new vocalist Giles Lavery!

I revisited Megadeth's "Peace Sells But Who's Buying" and the 25th anniversary Box Set which has a live show recorded right here in Cleveland Ohio at the Phantasy Theater back in 1987

Album number two by Ellefson-Soto which is a collaboration between David Ellefson and Jeff Scott Soto is another great record in the books. I like this new album "Unbreakable" better than the previous album "Vacation in The Underworld" for the simple fact that this new album has a bit of a darker edge to it musically and lyrically. You also can't go wrong with a guest appearance from Tim Ripper Owens either. A clip from my latest podcast is here.

Iron Savior has always recorded really cool cover songs and they are typically songs that are not originally a heavy metal song. They have an album coming out on Perception Label in 2026 and it’s filled with heavy metal versions of some of my favorite 80s movie soundtrack songs and one hit wonder bands in a few covers from songs that came out in the late 70s

Totally digging us as this was my childhood soundtrack back in the day when I was a little kid

As someone who did professional photography for two pretty reputable publications, I can tell you that this case destroyed a lot of the credibility that Ross Halfin.

One of the number one rules you never break as a photographer is to sell somebody photos claiming it’s your work when it’s not. This is absolutely unreal and it’s very sad because if what happened it’s really true then I lost all respect for Ross Halfin.

I am already laying out a plan for The Metal Command Show merchandise for 2026. A new logo and a lot to come when it comes to this show. This past year has been a year where I hit a lot of goals as far as where I wanted to go with this and this will continue into 2026.

December is a month where I also listen to all of the albums that came out this year once again before I compile my "Top albums of the year list". I revisit every release I liked this year and then I rank them. Then it's off to 2026.

Merchandising, a new logo in the works and taking the show to a whole new level.

I will be putting a LOT into this. More so than I ever have in close to 30 years.
