Living with Parkinson's disease presents daily challenges, and managing tremors is one of the most significant hurdles. Over the years, I've developed various types of resting tremors, including the characteristic 'pill-rolling' motion caused by the disease. It's essential to understand that certain factors can trigger or exacerbate tremors, such as medication side effects from antidepressants or antipsychotics. Despite these challenges, I've discovered several strategies that can help strengthen my body and reduce the frequency of tremors. Prioritizing exercise is crucial, as regular physical activity improves overall well-being and functionality. I've also found that eliminating caffeine and getting adequate sleep are vital in managing symptoms. Listening to my body and managing stress levels has been equally important, as pushing myself too hard can have severe consequences. By taking control of these factors and learning to manage my emotions, I can reduce the likelihood of triggering debilitating symptoms and improve my quality of life.

What is Parkinson’s Disease?

Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative brain disorder that damages dopamine-producing (“dopaminergic”) neurons in a specific area of the brain called substantia nigra.

What are the symptoms of Parkinson's disease?

Symptoms generally develop slowly over years. The progression of symptoms is often a bit different from one person to another due to the diversity of the disease. People with PD may experience:

Tremor, mainly at rest and described as pill rolling tremor in hands; other forms of tremor are possible
Slowness and paucity of movement (called bradykinesia and hypokinesia)
Limb stiffness (rigidity)
Gait and balance problems (postural instability)
In addition to movement-related (“motor”) symptoms, Parkinson’s symptoms may be unrelated to movement (“non-motor”). People with PD are often more impacted by their non-motor symptoms than motor symptoms. Examples of non-motor symptoms include: depression, anxiety, apathy, hallucinations, constipation, orthostatic hypotension, sleep disorders, loss of sense of smell, and a variety of cognitive impairments.

April is Parkinson's Awareness Month, and I am committed to raising awareness, supporting the 10 million people worldwide living with the disease, and advancing research towards a cure.

Key initiatives include promoting awareness of early symptoms, such as tremors, slowness, and stiffness, and partnering with the Parkinson's Foundation to enhance care.

Throughout the month, I will be sharing informative posts and reels to educate about Parkinson's Disease and hosting live discussions about my personal journey, addressing questions and experiences to the best of my ability. I kindly request your support in amplifying this awareness campaign to reach as many individuals as possible by liking and sharing the content. Love you FB fam ❤️.

*****This is a reminder to tell those wonderful people in your life THANK YOU and that you LOVE THEM!

I would like to take a moment and just brag on my mama. My mama is the nicest lady you’ll ever wanna meet. She’s sweet. She’s kind. She’ll take the shirt off her back and give it to anyone who needs it. However, the love she has for her children is more than you could ever imagine.
This past weekend I experienced some things that I haven’t experienced before when it comes to my my health, YOPD. It was nerve racking, frustrating and even a little scary at times.
But my mama was right there beside me the whole time helping me get through what I had to get through.
To know I have someone in my life that has my back like that is so incredible.
I love ya mama.
Thank you for everything you do for us. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

What is a hero?
The dictionary defines a hero as an ordinary individual who fines the strength to preserve and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.
I believe a hero is someone who puts others above themselves. Who despite their own struggles they always show up when you need them
My hero is my mother Cindy Bullard. She has been there for me through all the good times and the bad. She is my inspiration and my motivation. She loves God with all her heart and she puts Him first in every aspect of her life. I can only pray that I can be half the women she is. My mom is my best friend and I couldn’t not do this life without her.
Mama I love you bigger than life. Thank you for never giving up on me.
