Thomas Cromwell was ordered, by the King, to conduct an investigation into the activities of his Queen, Anne Boleyn

On this day in 1513, the death of Edward Howard, the second son of Thomas Howard and Elizabeth Tilney.

As part of Henry VIII's second invasion, Howard was forced over the side of his ship and drowned due to the weight of his armour. According to David Loades, Edward's body was found three days later, and along with it his silver whistle, the Lord Admiral's badge of office. His armour was sent as a trophy to Princess Claude, the French King's daughter, and his whistle to Anne of Brittany.

Nine days later, Edward's elder brother, the infamous Thomas Howard, was made Lord Admiral in his place.
