Folk to Folk

Folk to Folk In the beginning, there was music. http://www.folk-to-folk.com It is not John Mayer, it is not "acoustic soft rock," and it is not "adult alternative."

Folk to Folk is an evolving multimedia documentary project looking at a new generation of folk musicians and folk communities across America. We find great bands, record and talk to them, and spend a lot of time thinking about what it all means. Folk is not dead and it is not your confined to your dad's Bob Dylan records and it is not the old guys with the acoustic guitars lurking in your townie b

ars. So what is folk? Well that depends. Sometimes it's rooted in punk and hip hop. Sometimes it's on the streets with activism and anarchists and occupiers. Sometimes it's relaxing at warm basement shows and living room gatherings, sitting cross legged on the floor drinking tea out of mason jars. Sometimes it's psyched out and smoking too much and noodling around on old timey instruments. All we know is it's the music of the people, when people are trying to connect to other people. It's constructive, inclusive, collaborative. It's nostalgic and melancholy but it's staying positive. And it's back in a big way. We stumbled onto folk in the Hoots in Allston and JP, and followed it around the southeast for a while, stopping in Richmond, Baltimore, Asheville, Athens, Gainesville, and New Orleans. We're regrouping and then if we can, we'll set back out on the road. We're looking for America. By recording performances and interviews, we're calling attention to some really worthwhile music, and along the way, trying to get a look at what folk has come to mean to the people playing it today. So come check it out! Contact us with thoughts, ideas, or recommendations. Listen to some good folkin music and have a good folkin time.
