A MEDIA PRODUCTION COMPANY I have been a fan of film since back when I was a little kid. I spend all my spare time watching movies.
Back in 2012, I started filming and editing videos working with Coach Tom Chea and his Taekwondo Team filming his students train and compete in tournaments all around the country including the Junior Olympics in Las Vegas. From there, I decided I wanted to start filming Hip Hop shows and transition into Music Video Production. I started working with Hip Hop promoter, Leedz Edutainment and I starte
d to create content doing live show recaps for Leedz. I started to network with the local Hip Hop artists in the New England area and began to build my brand. I have had the opportunity to film Hip Hop Artists, RAKIM, ICE T, BONE, THUGS & HARMONY, EPMD, WYCLEF,GHOSTAFACE KILLAH, RAEKWON, REDMAN, METHOD MAN, GZA, ONYX, SLICK RICK, DMC, SMIFF-N-WESSUN, BENNY THE BUTCHER, WESTSIDE GUNN, CONWAY THE MACHINE, CHRIS WEBBY, LORD FINESSE, RAH DIGGA, JOYNER LUCAS, MILLYZ, FREDDIE GIBBS, SKYZOO, TERMANOLOGY, 38 SPESH, R.A. “I have been a fan of films since back when I was a little kid. I spent all my spare time watching movies growing up.”
SANDOFILMS is a Boston-based production company run by SCOTT SANDONATO, 47, (Director-Editor-Producer) who fell in love with Hip Hop at the age of 13 after hearing "The Message" by GRANDMASTER FLASH & THE FURIOUS 5 for the first time on WERS 88.9. This all led to eventually specialize in Music Videos, Live Show Performances, Promotional Videos, and the monthly interview web series, OFF THE MIC. Last year they did Official Videos for the 2017 Boston Freedom Rally & 2017 The Art of Rap Tour and have captured performances from RAEKWON & GHOSTFACE KILLAH, GZA, CHRIS WEBBY, SLAINE, RAKIM, ICE-T, EPMD, SMIFF-N-WESSON, DMC, MADCHILD, STEVIE STRANGE, BONE, THUGS N HARMONY, EDO G, TOKEN, REDMAN & METHOD MAN, SLICK RICK, PAUL WALL, LA COKA NOSTRA, ROCKNESS MONSTAH, BLAK MADEEN, SINICAL, TERMANOLOGY, DAYLYT, SNOW THA PRODUCT, MICKEY AVALON & DIRT NASTY, M-DOT, BIG SHUG of GANGSTARR, ONYX, JUSTIN CLANCY, MACKLEMORE and more. Covering the Hip Hop Scene in Boston since 2014.
After 2 decades of being on the wrong path of crime put me in jail for a 2 year sentence back in 2005. When I got out, I realized I needed a change. My friend, COACH TOM CHEA asked me if I wanted to travel the country with him filming his Taekwondo team in National Tournaments. This is where I learned how to shoot and edit video. Tom taught me well. I was able to see the country and got the opportunity to exclusively video the Junior Olympics and these tournaments brought me to Las Vegas, Chicago, Virginia, Texas, New York, and Florida. I also got the opportunity to work with 2012 Olympic Medalist, PAIGE MCPHERSON and 2012 Olympic Medalist, TERRENCE JENNINGS.
During this I started producing promotional videos and it started off when I did a small short film/slideshow of my journey on the 2011 Groove Cruise in January of 2011. After the huge response in views that I got on YouTube, and for the fact that I was also a nightclub promoter here in Boston, I came up with the idea of video promoting using YouTube and Facebook. As a promoter, it is frustrating to spend so much time sending out those invites that people either delete or don't read. So, I started making these interesting little 2 minute video promos for clubs and DJs in the Boston/Rhode Island area.
My love of Hip Hop comes from a true place in my heart. When I was 13 years old, I heard “The Message’ by GRANDMASTER FLASH & THE FURIOUS 5 on WERS 88.9 night and it blew my mind. The beat along with the story they were telling instantly hooked me to the Hip Hop movement as a b-boy and breakdancer. It was amazing to see Hip Hop from the start and watch it evolve so many times over the years. Sometimes good, sometimes bad but even more relevant today then when it first hit the airwaves. I have seen almost anyone you can think of live from BEASTIE BOYS to 2PAC to BIGGIE to EMINEM.
In 2014, I decided that I wanted to incorporate Hip Hop into my videos. At first, it was hard at first because I didn’t know anyone out here. The first local show I went to was HUSH HARDING’s monthly showcase at Maggy’s Lounge in Quincy, Ma. Hush let me shoot a highlights video for his show. I was new to this so it wasn’t that good. Hush was honest with me and told me what was wrong with it and taught me a lot about editing Hip Hop videos.
This began a friendship that turned in a fellow collaborator and we have worked on many videos together since then. I also spent a little over a year working with his company No Muzzle Ent all of 2017. Together we shot videos featuring REKS and LA Battle Rapper, DAYLYT
During this time I also did a lot of work with STIZ GRIMEY of WAAF and Team Grimey. We did a lot of projects together from music videos to comedy skits to promos and they were very popular.
Stiz and I also got the opportunity to produce an original theme song, “GOING FOR THE GOLD” and video produced by DJ RICHIE CROWN for Olympian, Paige McPherson for promo for her 2nd Olmpics in 2016. This is how I started to build my brand.
In 2017, I was fortunate to film THE ART OF RAP TOUR when it came to Boston and it was the best experience I ever had. They had me pick a team (the very talented CAHL BENNECHI & JOHN MOONY/TRESPASSION) to capture the show and we got to meet so many legends backstage including RAKIM and RAEKWON & GHOSTFACE KILLAH. It was one of the best times in my career and my biggest Hip Hop moment.
I also have worked on a series of films in front of and behind the camera. With a couple years of acting classes at The Actor’s Workshop in Boston, I began to pursue acting on the side with mostly background extra roles. I was cast in BLACK MASS, GHOSTBUSTERS, and LIVE BY NIGHT. It was around this time that I met Boston Director-Actor-Writer, Michael Yebba and I worked with him as an Associate Producer on the documentary, “A World With No Skies” about the opiod crisis in Boston and the country. we were fortunate enough to interview the Mayor Of Boston, MARTY WALSH. SLAINE was an Executive Producer of the film as well, the title of the film is the name of one of his albums also. The film is set for release in 2018-19.
From there, Mike was impressed with my work and ambition, he gave my number to JAMES WAHLBERG of WAHL ST PRODUCTIONS. I was fortunate to work with Wahl St on a short film about addiction and shooting b-roll for 2 music videos for SULLY ERNA of GODSMACK as well.
