Introducing MITHIC- the MIT Human Insight Collaborative, putting humanities at the center of MIT.

MITHIC will foster “an ecosystem of individual excellence and cross-cutting collaboration in human focused research.”

They selected the brilliant Min Jin Lee as the artist to launch this initiative, as she exemplifies the synthesizing of many different disciplines. She is a historian and academic that writes novels that change the way people see and understand history, give voice and depth to those that history forgot, show how technology changes lives, and so much more. Her award-winning book Pachinko exploring so many universal themes through the lives of Koreans in Japan.

This is one of my favorite novels, so I was super honored to lead a conversation with Min for the launch of MITHIC, from her opening sentence and thesis of Pachinko , “History has failed us, but no matter.”
We explored how technology and society changes play out in a real way in people’s lives, much as MITHIC will be exploring. We discussed the immigrant experience, which many in the MIT community experience, the role of culture and arts, and so much more. Thank you for the thoughtful and fun conversation!

Talking history, memoirs, and the 60’s at the annual Boston Book Fest. The Old South Church was packed for Doris Kearns Goodwin, for her beautiful “Unfinished Love Story” and Charles Trueheart for “Diplomats at War.” Both of these award-winning historians contextualized major events of the 60’s through a personal lens of family experiences, bringing an understanding to these major events and background into how they unfolded. These historical events provide insight and hope for what we are experiencing today.

This was the first time Charles and Doris were on stage together, and it was a powerful conversation, with great questions from the thoughtful audience.

Proud to be a sponsor and serve as a host of this fantastic literary gathering, and grateful to the team for this labor of love in bringing in world-class authors and provoking such thoughtful conversations.

10 years! The GlobeDocs Film Fest is happening now, and is well established after 10 years of curating top documentary films.

The dream a decade ago when we launched this was simple - we wanted to celebrate, convene, and strengthen the incredible documentary film community that we have here in Boston. We kicked off this year’s festival with a sold out crowd for the world premiere of DUKAKIS: RECIPE FOR DEMOCRACY. This film offers an intimate look into the legacy of 1988 presidential nominee and Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis, someone who has played such an important role in shaping the history of our state and our nation. We were honored to be joined by Governor Dukakis for a conversation post screening.

Governor Maura Healey and Kim Driscoll issued a special citation- honoring the GlobeDocs Film Festival and its contribution to our community over the past decade.

Honored to support and to help kick off season with a fun family night at Symphony Hall. The had a dynamic opening weekend, opening the doors to audiences around the city. The family night was a fab collab with the Keith Lockhart-led Boston Pops and - with cirque performance set to the beautiful sound of the Pops.

The world-class BSO builds an extraordinary community around music, with an important impact on audiences, community, arts and culture in the city, and the art form itself. We are lucky to have this beautiful institution as part of Boston.

Before the match, we met with two of the families that tragically lost their daughters in a horrific knife attack in Southport, Merseyside on July 29, 2024 at a special Taylor Swift themed dance event.

Family and friends mourning the loss of seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe and nine-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar were able to join us for LFC’s season opening match at Anfield as we offered support, sympathy, and community.

I was so inspired by the grace and love these families have found in their intense grief. One family pointed out that their beloved daughter didn’t know evil, and they were directing their grief to making their seaside community better and more beautiful with plans for a special garden. It has been incredible to see how the broader community and country have rallied around all of the families impacted by this tragedy.

One of the parents talked about the rolling waves of grief that hit as the devastating reality of not seeing their daughter again sets in.

Eight more children were injured in this attack, with five left in critical condition, two adults also suffered critical injuries. A 17-year-old was arrested.

Southport, Liverpool, and beyond have been showing so much love and support for these grieving families.

We wanted to celebrate the life and legacy of Larry Lucchino at Fenway, and knew that the best time to do it was during the annual Jimmy Fund radio/telethon. Larry had three major bouts with different cancers, and proudly served as the Jimmy Fund chair. He and Stacy did so much to support the Jimmy Fund and Pan Mass. in his will, most of his success from a lifetime of work was directed to create a fund at Dana Farber for cancer care.

The Jimmy Fund and the Boston have the most unique, long-standing (71 years!) relationship between a charity and sports team in the history of pro sports. The Red Sox have been champions in the fight against cancer, raising $167m for cancer research and care- of that huge amount, over $146m was raised with this ownership group.

We talked about Larry as a baseball man, as a mentor, as a builder and restorer of baseball stadiums around the country, and his impact and dedication to cancer care. I led a conversation with his longtime cancer doctor, Dr. Lee Nadler and the CEO of , Laurie Glimcher. John spoke about Larry, as did Bill Bradley, George Will, Mike Barnicle, family, and other friends.

What a legacy Larry left us.

From America’s Civil War to Elon Musk, I hosted fun and fascinating conversations at the Nantucket Book Festival with renowned bestselling authors Erik Larson and Ben Mezrich.

The latest book by - ‘Demon of Unrest’ is a fascinating exploration of the 5 months between Lincoln’s election until his inauguration and how the Civil War actually started. It changed my understanding of American history and my view on current divisions. Erik’s disciplined and deep focus on this time period contextualizes how the demon of unrest in the country led to a bloody war

My conversation with longtime friend bounced through many of his books and topics- from the MIT blackjack team, to the founding of Facebook, to his experience with Russian oligarchs, to twitter breaking Elon Musk- we got great stories from his fascinating and highly prolific career. Always a fun and interesting conversation.

Thank you to the Nantucket Book Foundation for convening this fantastic literary community, making all of these talks free. It is such a gift to gather together in person and discuss deep stories and histories with the great authors and historians that wrote them- and what a lineup of fantastic authors!
