Realm and Ritual Year Seven Wrap Up.

1 LP release. 22 Realm and Ritual tapes. 15 Demo Series Tapes. 2 reissued titles. Too many candles to count.

As always, thank you to everyone who picked up a record or tape from me. It means a lot to see listeners continue to support physical media in a world of endless streams and dwindling artist payments.

Thank you as well to the 31 artists that trusted me with your work in 2025. This collaborative process kept me going this year even when so many things in the world, in this country, looked incredibly bleak.

My goal for 2026 is to do more with less. I'd like to focus my attention on a smaller number of releases and work with people I've enjoyed working with in the past. Having said that, I'm still going to be taking submissions and hoping to bring new folks into the fold through The Demo Series releases.

Aside from active releases, I'm planning on putting together more shows in Boston. Having in-person events and a community that exists offline is crucial and it's been so fu***ng cool to travel all around the US to go to DS shows and then host artists back home.

I'll be laying low for January but expect a store update with lots of distro stock in early February.

“A Mad King’s Dream” is the newest EP from Spanish Demo Series stalwart, GuardianSorrow. Five tracks of triumphant old school dungeon synth transporting the listener to a lost realm ruled by a crazed sovereign, sonically punctuated by booming narration, medieval atmosphere, and shadowy strands of dust-laden melancholy.

Hand-numbered edition of 30 home-dubbed transparent cassettes with A/B sticker label and 4-panel J-card.

TDS050 | Ancient Dreamer - Dreambound II

“Dedicated to those who embrace reticence.”

Ancient Dreamer, an anonymous project from the realm of sleep, returns one year after their debut to present the follow up to “Dreambound”. “Dreambound II” is composed of eight tracks of pensive melody; warm waves of crackling light illuminate the darkened skies of slumber through somnambulant spells. Ancient Dreamer sings lullabies of static and weather-worn melancholy for both the perpetually awake and endlessly tired.

RAR223 | Wych Elm - III [with live performance B side]

“Tell your friends you love them.”

After two years of hibernation, Canterbury-based dungeon synth artist, Wych Elm, returns with “III”; a dream-laden journey through wistful memory and enveloping melancholia. The six-track EP builds on the nostalgia soaked atmospheres of the previous releases and weaves reverberating organs with gauzy synth soundscapes to produce a somber ode to lost love and lapsed friendship. The tape version of “III” also includes a live recording from an intimate performance at St. Peter in the Forest Church in London on October 4th, 2025.

RAR222 | Wych Elm - I - IS - II

“For You. I'll never forget”

Realm and Ritual is proud to present the first three Wych Elm releases–I, IS [1.5], and II–onto a single compilation tape chronicling the first year of the project from October 2021-October 2022. Helmed by Sam Mewett (Orcus, LANDSRAAD, Vicious Mockery Records), Wych Elm is a nostalgic meditation on grief and loss; an emotive spell of echoing organ, swelling synth, and ethereal atmosphere. From the first ringing notes of “Twilight Shade of the Forest Glade”, to the enchanted melodies of “Shadows Cast on Your Behalf”, to the last decaying breaths of “Doctor (A Cry for Help)", Wych Elm channels sincerity in droves, an honesty that sticks to the bones and stays with the listener long after the music has stopped.
