Milton "Big Un" Sovo, Jr. 76, of Apache, OK went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 10th, 2026. He passed from this life in his Apache home surrounded by his beloved family and friends.
To know Milton was an honor, to love him was a privilege and blessing.
Milton was born on December 23, 1949, in Lawton OK to Milton "Brownie" Sovo and Marjorie Diana Tahquechi Sovo. His home for 45 yrs was Sterling, OK. Milton was the first of 7 children and as the eldest always looked after his younger siblings. Whether always giving of his time, money, attention, or energy, Milton made sure to look after them responsibly as the oldest son and lead with a gentle hand and huge heart.
He was a beautiful blend of the Native traditions he was reared with and the Christian values he chose and exhibited daily. Always up for a good joke, he was famous for telling his Old Indian Tales, or OITs as they are referred to. Milton graduated from Sterling High School and completed his Bachelor of Science Degree from Cameron University, while working full-time. He continued studying through his lifetime with various universities, resulting in his completion of his PhD in Agricultural Sciences and proudly used his new title of Dr. Milton Sovo, PhD. When he was with his family and decided to share some of his wisdom through OITs, he was quickly brought down to earth by his wife by saying, "Dr. Sovo" in the tone of voice that made him laugh greatly.
Milton served on many Tribal, state and national boards of organizations. These included Comanche Nation Business Committee, Oklahoma Advisory Board Department of Transportation, Town Board of Apache, Oklahoma, sitting as mayor, and the president of his own corporation.
Milton was always willing to learn when young. As long as he had his beloved grandparents and parents he was learning of the Comanche culture and history. He promised his elders that if he could complete his education, he would use his life to help his people learn to conserve and protect the natural resources so important to them for future generations. He fulfilled that promise.
A Christian man with high moral and ethical values, Milton searched the Bible for the path to gain his promise of eternal life and obeyed those commands in his early 20s. He lived a faithful life as a member of Christ's Church at Sterling and Elgin Church of Christ congregations. He led singing at Elgin, and anytime he was asked to do so.
Milton and Alice S. (Sue) Derby Sovo were united in marriage on June 27, 1995, in Lawton, Oklahoma. In doing so, he became "Dad" to Seanna. From that day forward, she was HIS daughter. Their bond could not have been stronger. Their love for each other was amazing. Because he waited until he was 45 years old to marry, being together and doing all together as "one" with Sue was a source of happiness. He had hoped for a home of his own, and his own family for many years. He was always busy with his nephews and nieces and had decided he would be content in doing for them as long as he was needed, if that is what God wanted for him. As he loved saying to people, in telling the story of how he and Sue met, he often said, "Here she comes a walkin, talkin true love, sayin I've been lookin' for you love...out of the blue clear sky!" Obviously, he was a lifelong lover of George Strait music and sang his songs often!
For several years he played with his siblings in their family band. Milton's love of all kids was visible in all he did. As he helped with his nieces and nephews, any kids that were with them, were with him. Always included, never left out, fed, transported, counseled, taught. He never ran out of patience and love, and they all trusted and loved him in return. Scouting, coaching ball, stock shows, parades, hauling horses, hauling band instruments for the Elgin HS band, chaperoning on school trips - just a few of his constant helpful deeds for the kids. Spending hours playing games such as Cowboys and Indians, at the insistence of the kids, he happily accepted a role reversal. He was always the Cowboy and they were the Indians. His thought was "I would have made a very good real life Indian!"
Milton was preceded in death by his parents, paternal grandparents Ernest Sovo and Sally Florence Nausuquas, his maternal grandparents, Norton Teddy "Sapo-Re-Ne" Tahquechi and Margaret Garrow Tahquechi, brother June Sovo, sister Denese Sovo, and nephew Roddrick Allen Sovo, his mother and father-in-law George K. and Ellen "Bea" Derby, and his sister-in-law Jewel Kathleen McCarty.
He is survived by his wife Sue of the home, daughter and son-in-law Seanna & Wesley Whisenhunt and grandson Collin of Rolla, MO, Kristopher Sovo of Lawton, OK and Renee Hill of Anadarko, OK both of whom he considered his children. Brothers Gene Sovo, Lennel T. "Ted" Sovo both of Sterling, Oklahoma, sisters, Donita Sovo, Sterling and Diana Gail Sovo, Sterling. Brothers-in-law and Sisters-in-law: Ken Derby and David Derby, Apache, OK, Kurt and Tessa Widmer, Maysville, OK, Sharon Cleveland, Lawton, OK and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces, and a host of dear friends and family.

Graveside memorial service for Maureen Michele “Micki” O’Malley was held Monday, June 15, 2026, at Fairview Cemetery, Apache, Oklahoma with Dr. Jared Byrns, Pastor of Central Baptist Church, Lawton, Oklahoma officiating.

Maureen Michele “Micki” O’Malley, 63, of Lawton, Oklahoma passed away after a short illness on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in Lawton. She was born November 5, 1962, in Lawton, Oklahoma to James George “Jim” O’Malley and Marcellene Janell “Marcy” Brown O’Malley.

Micki grew up in Lawton and attended Lawton Public Schools, graduating from Eisenhower High School in 1981. She continued her education at Cameron University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting. While attending school, Micki worked at Herb’s Discount in the produce and meat departments, continuing there into her college years. She later joined Lawton Public Schools as a library assistant and then as a classroom assistant.

For about 35 years, Micki dedicated her career to the Peregrine Corporation until health challenges led her to retire recently. In addition to her professional work, she was co-owner of Heavenly Scents, an at-home candle and body product business.

Micki enjoyed reading and had a cherished collection of books. She loved watching movies, cooking shows, and spending time cooking. She treasured moments with her nieces and nephews, taking them shopping, to the movies, having sleepovers, attending church, and swimming at the pool.

A long-time member of First Missionary Baptist Church and later Central Baptist Church, Micki served in many roles. At First Missionary Baptist Church, she was a piano player, vacation bible school music director, Sunday school teacher for many years, and treasurer. She also organized numerous meals and annual family reunions at her home in Lawton. Micki and her mother shared a deep bond, caring for each other lovingly over many years despite their own physical challenges. When neither was able to attend church in person, they remained devoted by watching the services together via livestream. Both were steadfast in their faith and lived as devoted Christians.

Micki is survived by one brother, Mike O’Malley and wife Rhonda of Cache, Oklahoma, one sister, Cyndi Curtis and husband Lee of Lawton, Oklahoma, brother-in-law, Nelson Moore and wife Karrie of Geronimo, Oklahoma, nephews and nieces, Michael O’Malley, II, Donnie O’Malley, Briana Crawford and husband Jimmy, Patrick O’Malley and wife Stephanie Griffin, Crystal Mason and husband Mark, Brandon Moore and King Dey, Corey Moore and wife Janice, and many other great nephews, great nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Micki is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Kathleen Janell “Kathy” Moore, and other family members.

Funeral service for Larry Gene New will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2026 in Letitia Baptist Church with Rev. Matt Kelly, Pastor officiating.

Burial will follow in Letitia Cemetery under direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

Larry Gene New passed away on Monday, June 8, 2026, in Lawton, Oklahoma, at the age of 80. He was born on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1946, in Snyder, Oklahoma, to Wiley and Wynema (Ryder) New.

Larry grew up in Lawton, where he attended Garfield Elementary School and Tomlinson Junior High School before graduating from Lawton High School in 1964. He continued his education at Cameron State Agricultural College, earning an associate degree, and later received a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and Agricultural Education from Oklahoma State University. He subsequently earned a master’s degree in Counseling from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Larry had a lifelong passion for rodeo. Following high school graduation, he and several of his buddies attended Jim Shoulders Rodeo School. He loved competing in rodeos and earned a spot on the Oklahoma State University rodeo team, where he formed many lifelong friendships and created countless stories. While attending OSU, he met Myrna Smith on a blind date. They were married on February 3, 1968, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and shared an amazing marriage for more than 58 years. Together they were blessed with two sons, Kelly and Marty, who were Larry’s pride and joy and whom he loved dearly.

Larry began a 30-year career with Lawton Public Schools as a teacher and basketball coach at Tomlinson Junior High School. To generations of students and athletes, he was simply known as “Coach New”. Later, he was given the opportunity to head the Agriculture Department, teaching horticulture at both Lawton High School and MacArthur High School. Throughout his career, he maintained a special place in his heart for his students and took great pride in their accomplishments.

Larry remained actively involved in the agricultural community throughout both his career and retirement. He was a member and former chairman of the Comanche County Saddle and Sirloin Club and managed the Great Plains Coliseum. He was also a dedicated member of the Lawton Rangers, serving as president, rodeo chairman, and member of the board of directors. In addition, he served on the Agriculture Committee of the Lawton Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Larry grew up attending Trinity Baptist Church in Lawton and later attended Letitia Baptist Church. In his later years, he enjoyed spending summers in South Fork, Colorado. He loved snow skiing and was a proud member of the “Geronimo Ski Team.” He also enjoyed cruises with camping friends, attending the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, fishing trips, four-wheeling adventures, and watching his grandsons show pigs and goats. Known affectionately as “Grumps” by his grandchildren, Larry wore the nickname with pride and treasured the special bond he shared with each of them.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58½ years, Myrna; his sons and daughters-in-law, Kelly and Jenny New of Sterling, Oklahoma, and Marty and Janette New of Lawton; four grandchildren, Carson, Gunner, Jacob, and Isaac; his brother-in-law, Tony Gulley; his sister-in-law, Lora McDonald; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pete and Betty Smith; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bid and Lucy Ryder and Sam and Jewel New; his parents, Wiley and Wynema New; his in-laws, Carl and Kathleen Smith; his brother, Kim New; his sister, Jaree Gulley; and a special cousin, Odis New.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to your favorite charity in Larry’s honor.

A very special thank you is extended to the caregivers in the Memory Care Unit at Morada. They took awesome care of Larry and loved him dearly. We also want to thank the staff of Complete OK Hospice, who were amazing. God bless each of you, and thank you.

Don Walker was born on Friday, May 7th 1954, and lived 72 years and 3 days before his passing on Sunday, May 10th 2026.
The seventh son, he was a happy surprise to his parents and to his 5 older sisters, who treated him like their own baby instead of a brother. Don was very proud to have grown up in Comanche County in Cache, Oklahoma. He was heavily influenced by the Native Americans he grew up with in Cache and later in life enjoyed painting, making jewelry and coup sticks reflecting the love he had for the Native culture.
He spent many hours learning life lessons at Louis Pool Hall in Cache but it was at the Red Coat Inn in Lawton where he met the love of his life, Dee. On their first date he told her he didn’t dance, so she got up to dance with an old boyfriend. He decided after that he did, in fact, dance and they went out dancing almost every weekend for many years and continued to dance on the deck most weekends until just a few weeks ago. They married in June of 1975 and two years later their daughter Melissa was born. Don and Melissa were kindred spirits. When she was small they enjoyed spa days where he would paint her nails and blow-dry her hair, going to Braum’s for ice cream in his jeep, metal detecting or just driving around the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge together.
Don loved all genres of music and encouraged the same for his daughter. The race to see who could be the first to name the title and artist of a song was a never-ending game for them. He rarely got angry or raised his voice when raising Melissa, all he had to do was tell her he was disappointed. Some people say he spoiled her; no doubt he loved her unconditionally and she knew it. In 1998 Melissa married her husband Michael, who was so much more than his daughter’s husband, he was like a son to him and was his best friend. Don loved that Michael liked to play pool as much as he did and that he was even almost as good as he was. Almost. Don and Michael played countless pool games together throughout the years, spent many days watching and discussing sports and many nights sitting in the backyard solving the world’s problems – typically bourbon was involved in these activities.
In 2008 Don and Dee left Oklahoma for Alabama to be closer to their grandsons Ethan and Reese. It was no surprise to anyone that Don was an excellent grandfather. Pepa was the name his grandsons gave him after he suggested they call him Mr. Walker. He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons fishing, having extensive matchbox car races, and he rarely missed a baseball or soccer game. Although he had many things in life to be proud of, nothing made him prouder than his grandsons. Through the years all six of them often vacationed together, usually having as much fun getting there as they did at their destination. They always had the most fun just being together playing poker or dominoes, listening to music and laughing.
Don had an uncanny ability to make whoever he was speaking with feel like the most important person in the world. He believed that everyone had a story to tell and when he listened to you, you felt seen. Everyone had a seat at his table and he believed that people are all more alike than they are different. He not only had an amazing effect on people that new him well but everywhere he went strangers would come up to him and say they “recognized him from somewhere”. We now know they were recognizing his gentle and compassionate soul shining through his eyes. Whether you knew him as dad, Pepa or Don everyone agreed – he was absolutely the coolest guy you knew.
Don was proceeded in death by his parents, William Henry and Alva Mae Walker, siblings Ronnie (Bud) Walker, Glenda Albertson and Sandra Pulis and infant son Clinton Don Walker.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years and 11 months, Dee Walker, daughter Melissa and her husband Michael Owens, grandsons Ethan and Reese Owens, favorite daughter Alison Green and her kids Cooper and Paisley who he loved so much, in laws and special friends Victor and Shorty Shepherd who took in Don and Dee as family when they moved to Alabama, in laws and lifelong friends Nub and Cyndie Smith, siblings Joy Rowell and her husband Bill, Betty Scott, Becky Wallis and her husband Dwayne, in laws Marshal Morton and his wife Jan, and numerous other relatives and friends that he loved.
Although we will miss his irreplaceable advice, grounding presence and the feeling of his arms around us, we know how extraordinarily lucky we were to have this exceptional person in our lives for so many years. His family and friends will bask in the shade of the trees he planted for generations to come.
The family had a very impromptu get together on Memorial Day Weekend and plan to have a celebration of life at a later date, but we ask that everyone please join us in honoring him by doing the things he enjoyed: turn your music up, tell your loved ones how important they are to you, pet a dog, sit quietly outside listening to the birds and trees. Have a drink for a life well lived and a man well loved, Don Walker. Cheers

Linda Sue Gregory, 75, of Geronimo, Oklahoma, passed away June 5, 2026. She was born July 10, 1950, in Sugden, just outside of Waurika, Oklahoma, to Irene Florence (Burt) and Oscar "Bub" McMurtry. She graduated from Geronimo High School in 1968 and married Joe Gregory on December 29, 1966, in Wichita Falls, Texas. She worked for Hagger Slacks and JCPenney and later as a teacher's aide at Bishop School before retiring.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Cooper Lane Gregory; brother, Johnny McMurtry; and sisters, Mary Alvarez and Shirley Morales.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Gregory; son, Brian Gregory and wife Cyndy of Geronimo, Oklahoma; grandsons, Wyatt Gregory and wife Taylor of Oklahoma City and Tucker Gregory of Oklahoma City; great-granddaughter, Hadley Gregory; sister, Rita Bowen of Wynnewood, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.

The McSwain family announces the passing of Joyce Ann McSwain, 79, on May 18, 2026, and George “Ander” McSwain, 78, on May 14, 2026, both of Indiahoma, Oklahoma. They shared nearly 61 years of marriage and a lifetime built on family, culture, and love.
Joyce McSwain was born on January 26, 1947, in Indiahoma, to Baldwin Parker Jr. and Marguerite Parker. She was a proud member of the Comanche Nation and carried deep devotion to her family, traditions, and community throughout her life.
George Andrew McSwain was born on June 4, 1947 in Coffee County, Georgia to Daniel Ambrose McSwain and Lavada Irene McSwain. He was known for living life by example, guided by fairness, hard work, and the philosophy that if all else fails, “hit it with a bigger hammer.” His greatest pride and lifelong achievement was his family.
Together, George and Joyce built their life in Lakeland, Florida, where they lived and loved for
nearly six decades. George retired after three decades as a glass blower. He was an avid outdoorsman. However, he preferred to do most of his shooting with a camera and to toss the day's catch back, “so they’ll be ready to catch again tomorrow."
Deeply rooted in their culture, George and Joyce enjoyed traveling the powwow trail with their family in earlier years and later hosted Native American Church gatherings in their home— creating a place of fellowship, healing, and connection for many.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, George and her son, George McSwain Jr.
They are survived by their children, Prairie & Mark Tarrien, Donna McSwain, Ronnie & Tosha McSwain, Don McSwain, and son-in-law Greg Lizotte; as well as their many cherished grandchildren, including Oscar Hernandez, Julia Hernandez, Kal-el McSwain, Elaine Tarrien, Abigail Hernandez, Holly McSwain, and Josephine Tarrien.
Joyce and George will be laid to rest together beside their beloved son.
Services to honor George and Joyce McSwain’s enduring legacy will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, in Lakeland, FL, on June 4, 2026 at 10am.

Funeral service for Phillip L. Cummings, 68, of Walters will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026 at Wichita Baptist Church, Cache, OK with Brother Greg Schulz officiating.
Phillip passed away on Monday, May 26, 2026 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Burial will follow at Cache Cemetery, Cache, OK under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
Viewing will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 7, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a special viewing and visitation for family and friends on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Phillip was born on September 3, 1957 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Billy and Delamay (Fonvilled) Cummings. He grew up in Lawton where he attended school. Phillip married Debra Gray on March 28, 1997. They moved to Tennessee and later returned to Cache, OK in 2008. Debra passed away on March 21, 2023. Phillip worked for the City of Lawton, retiring in February of 2026. He. was a member of Wichita Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and he also was an ordained clergyman. Phillip was a proud Mason with the Grandfield Lodge 378. He enjoyed going dancing and in his younger days, Phillip was a bull rider.
He is survived by his daughter, Tiffany Kile, of Lawton, OK; his step daughter and husband, Melissa Moore and Graham Munn, of Oregon; his step son and wife, Jonathan and Brittany Bolin, of SC; his brother, Charlie Cummings, of Lawton, OK; his sister, Gay Drumm and her husband; his grandchildren, including Jaxson Kile, Luka Kile, Kameron Kile, and Kove Massa; his nieces and nephews; and a host of loving friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Delamay Cummings; his wife, Debra Cummings; and his brother, Gary Cummings.
