Tonight is the first round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the oldest and longest running soccer competition in the United States. Y’all Weekly’s sister publication Soccer Sheet will have a presence at all four matches this week that feature clubs from the Carolinas.

Two of the teams competing this week - Asheville City SC and Appalachian FC - were in communities hit hard by Hurricane Helene. Hurricane damage rendered Appalachian FC’s office unusable, but that didn’t stop them from donating the proceeds from their merchandise sales to Helene relief efforts.
