Idiosyncratic guitars James "Blood" Ulmer leaves the planet. I haven't seen him in a while but caught him many times in the 70s and 80s playing with Ornette Coleman's Prime Time and with his own bands. He was riveting and challenging, earthy and abstract all at once. He was 86. He's not an Echoes artist by a long stretch. But I wanted to share it with you.

I somehow missed that yesterday, June 4, was Suzanne Ciani's 80th birthday. So happy birthday to a mother of electronic music! Hear her live performance on Echoes from 2017.

Behind Suzanne Ciani's sweet, classically-derived melodies is an avant-gardist who came of age with the Buchla modular synthesizer in the 1970s. We hear both sides when she plays live.
