🔥➡️✅ Prescribed burn success!

💚 This week, the South Florida Water Management District worked with MyFWC Florida Fish and Wildlife as they conducted a prescribed burn on the northern end of Lake Okeechobee. This beneficial burn targeted cattail, willow and other vegetation.

🌿 Prescribed burns are an important land management tool in South Florida.

🌱 They ensure ecosystem health and reduce the threat of wildfire.

🐟 They help improve habitat for fish, waterfowl, wading birds, and other wildlife populations.

🌾 They aid in controlling certain invasive vegetation.

South Florida Water Management District in coordination with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission plans to conduct up to a 4,000 acre prescribed burn in Okeechobee County. The burn is in Lake Okeechobee, Kings Bar and Eagle Bay, Near Buckhead Ridge and approximately 2.5 miles south of the town of Okeechobee. Smoke maybe visible in the area of the burn as identified in the map.
