SightseeingSally Sightsee the road less traveled & discover forgotten tales of the unknown w/ America's favorite sightseer! Hey Sightseers, it’s Sally.

Wisconsin based, I document our exploits on YouTube.com/SightseeingSally highlighting places off the beaten path, the weird, forgotten stuff & more! Sightsee with me as we hit the backroads. Exploring towns, off the beaten path places, forgotten history, and more! Sightseeing, adj. “devoted to seeing sights”
Sally, n. “venture or excursion off the beaten track”

Quirky, fun, and full of chutzpah,

I’ll take you to places you’ve never been & put a new spin on places you already have. Fascinated by architecture, anything vintage, towns, legends & folklore, Bigfoot, waterfalls, abandoned stuff, the unexplained, nature, books, dogs, yoga, hiking, and trying new things… not necessarily in that order. When not drifting across America, I can be found with the elusive Marty living life lakeside in the north woods. Support My Adventures.....

Step back in time to the Sovereign State of Winneconne! After our first look at the Winneconne Wisconsin secession, the Winneconne Historical Society invited me for an exclusive deep dive into their museum archives. In this episode, we go behind the glass to explore the bizarre Midwest history of the 1967 "quitting" of the state before diving into the village's original rail depot, historic artifacts of times past, and the legacy of the legendary Leander Choate. Whether you are a fan of Wisconsin roadside attractions or hidden local heritage, this tour offers a rare look at the historical artifacts that keep this incredible story alive. Link below ⬇️

Before I go, I'd like to give a HUGE thank you to Angel, the President of the Winneconne Historical Society for taking time out to give me a personal tour, and to all of YOU for pointing me toward the museum in the last video! 🥂

Gasp!!! 🫢 did I plain ol’ plumb forget once AGAIN to post something fun highlighting last week’s episode and now it’s almost time for another episode to premiere?! Yikes, where on earth did the time go??? I must have fell down a rabbit hole or something.
Never fear sightseers. There IS a *new* episode right around the corner. In fact, I just finished the first round of edits with plans to finish and release tomorrow evening. Stay tuned for that. 🎞️
As for last week’s missing post, well, that’s what happens when you think you’ve got all the time in the world and then suddenly you don’t. I know my neurodivergent sightseers will get what I’m saying. Time is a weird construct for me.
Anyway, I will figure out a way to make up for it. In the meantime I still have tomorrow’s episode to finish. Btw, for those who enjoy our sneak peeks this photo is a small clue🕵🏼‍♀️ as to where tomorrow’s episode takes place.
See ya tomorrow evening sightseers!

Woohoo 🎉 It’s official!!! Your favorite sightseer is going to be one of two guest speakers for this year’s Ladies Day event held during the Menominee County Fair at Shakey Lakes Campground in Michigan.

This year’s Ladies Day theme is Travel & Adventure with a focus on stepping outside of your comfort zone AND not having to go far to explore something new. I’ve been asked to share how I got into doing what I do, some of my experiences as a full time sightseer, challenges, and how these experiences have positively impacted and/or changed my life.

The entire event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with my speaking portion lasting about 15 to 20 minutes. The first 100 ladies get a FREE swag bag.

I am so stoked to be involved in such a time honored event! I can’t wait to see all of you ladies there.

Sorry guys, this event is strictly for women only. Perhaps you can run into me at the fair afterwards? I haven’t decided if I will sneak out the back door 💃🏼 OR if I will hang around the fair awhile afterwards.

See attached for more details.

📍Nadeau, Michigan

Population is ??? I discovered some uncertainty when it comes to calculating Nadeau’s exact population. Google claims it to be somewhere around 1k per the 2020 Census. Locals state the actual population is closer to 100. And me? 🤷🏼‍♀️ What the heck do I know, I’m just a Cheesehead from Wisconsin.

Started by French Canadian Bruno “Barney” Nadeau in 1878, this unincorporated community in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan suffered some major calamities in its early years, mainly from fire. Despite these devestating difficulties, the people didn’t give up. As a result, the community still exists today.

Fun fact: The Nadeau Post Office was originally established on May 29, 1878 under the name Nadean. The name stayed that way until February 20, 1890 when it was officially corrected.

Many of its OG residents were French, which is evident when visiting the cemetery. On a hill overlooking the village, the cemetery is divided into two or three different sections (depending upon how you define them). The part that has some of the oldest graves is called Calvary, which is where you will find three very large crosses.

For those who like to imbibe, the bar to church ratio here is 2:1 🍻

Overall I found the town’s early history fascinating. Leo thought he could take on a pony. Regardless, we had a fantastic time checking out Nadeau. Oh, and if you want, you can watch our fun little trip in our latest episode on YouTube. 📺

Ugh, 😑 technology drives me crazy!!!
Last night I posted this little sneak peek to Instagram, which then was also supposed to be automatically added here on Facebook. For some darn tootin’ reason it didn’t. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Sigh. As this isn’t the first time I’ve encountered this issue, I should know better than to trust these apps to work like they should.
Anyway, enough of my griping. The world doesn’t need more negative energy coming from me today AND I need to get back to work. 👩🏼‍💻
Here’s the sneak peek of our next episode. I’m in process of editing and should have everything done within a few hours. I will let you sightseers know when the video is released.

Wondering what all these photos have in common? They are a small preview of what me & my little 3 legged passenger got to see during the filming of our latest episode.

On the surface, the village of Maribel appears to be quiet and unassuming. Yet, digging deeper into this small town’s past, we discover some surprisingly strange stories involving good ol’ H2O, a couple of witches, AND some rather unsavory characters from the Chicago area. I’m talking about the infamous Al Capone and John Dillinger, mobsters who reportedly spent time at the former posh resort known as the Maribell Caves Hotel.

Add to this tale one of Manitowoc County’s oldest buildings, an extremely ugly (ok, maybe more like creepy) looking monkey, and an ancient Native American trail turned military road, you now have the PERFECT combination for another spectacular SightseeingSally adventure!

Now available to watch free on YouTube, this episode is a must see if you’re at all interested in exploring small towns, historic places, and weird Wisconsin history. (Link below ⬇️)
