Michael K. Williams, whose death on September 6 at the age of 54 has shocked the entertainment industry, made himself one of television and film's most recognizable and compelling actors, says Variety. From The Wire to Boardwalk Empire, to Lovecraft Country, which he is nominated for a 2021 Emmy award for Best Supporting Actor, Williams was a compelling performer, as well as a viable contributor to community and charity efforts throughout New York City and the rest of the nation. Through the years, Williams openly discussed his problem with drugs, continuously attempting to get clean. Tragically, after not showing up for an event on September 5, his nephew found "Williams dead of a suspected he**in overdose." He was slumped over "with what appeared to be he**in on the kitchen table," according to the New York Post. There are also reports that the he**in may have been laced with fentanyl. He was always so nice whenever I ran into him. Rest in peace.........

In cheerful news, Cardi B is officially a mom of two! The WAP raptress and husband, Offset, welcomed their second child together, a son on September 5 at a hospital in the New York City area. In alignment with the brand's vision to celebrate hard work and making a difference, the program recognizes the hustle of ambitious entrepreneurs, go-getters and leaders from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). "HBCUs are major pillars in the Black community that reflect the very essence of Black excellence..."
-Terrence J
"Now and Later is a brand built on the values of hard work, resilience, transformation and authenticity. HBCU faculty, students and alumni embody these values daily," says Alnese Thomas, Brand Manager, Laffy Taffy & Now and Later. "It's a pleasure to support the incredible impact these institutions play in fostering some of the nation's most influential leaders."
In its inaugural year, Now and Later is partnering with Clark Atlanta University's (CAU) Mass Media Arts department based in Atlanta, Georgia, and the Cathy Hughes School of Communications at Howard University in Washington, D.C., to showcase the impact of the HBCU experience and inspire the next generation of Black leaders. Each school will receive a $10,000 donation to create a scholarship fund for participating students as well as host a virtual seminar where students will have a chance to draw inspiration from influential HBCU alumni, who have notably mastered the "art of the hustle" across various industries.
"We welcome this partnership and gift in recognition of the entrepreneurial spirit and drive of our students," said Gracie Lawson-Borders, Ph.D., dean of the Cathy Hughes School of Communications. "Together, we can empower students to succeed as leaders at this pivotal moment in the media and in society."
"We appreciate Now and Later for selecting Clark Atlanta University's Mass Media Arts Department (MMA) as one of its first donation recipients. Gifts like this truly help our MMA students to complete their journey of becoming the communications industry's next top leaders," said Gary Yates, Associate Professor and Interim Department Chair.
CAU's class will be led by Keshia Knight Pulliam, Emmy-nominated actress, entrepreneur, and venture capitalist. Pulliam, known for her roles in TV and film, is a proud HBCU graduate from the illustrious Spelman College. She has not only mastered her position in Hollywood, but also her position in the boardroom.
"I look forward to partnering with Now and Later on this program and sharing my personal and professional experience with the Class in Session students," Keshia Knight Pulliam says. "This next generation of HBCU leaders are resilient, and I am honored to provide any helpful nuggets to help fuel their entrepreneurial passions."
Acclaimed television personality, actor, and philanthropist Terrence J will lead the session at Howard University's Cathy Hughes School of Communications. Terrence is an alum from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Recently named the national ambassador for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Terrence J is a huge HBCU advocate and uses his platform to continuously promote the value of an HBCU education.
"As an HBCU alum, I am thrilled to partner with Now and Later on its Class in Session Series," Terrence J says. "HBCUs are major pillars in the Black community that reflect the very essence of Black excellence, and when married with a nostalgic brand like Now and Later the possibilities can't get any better!"
To expand its close connections to the HBCU community, Now and Later has also partnered with notable artist, fashion designer and Florida A&M University alum Melissa Mitchell to create a unique piece that will be included in book bags distributed to 400 participating students. Additionally, Now and Later will feature inspirational stories from HBCU alums on social media throughout the duration of the campaign.
Each seminar will be streamed online. Additional information may be found at NowandLater.com | Instagram: | Facebook: facebook.com/nowandlatercandy | Twitter: .

Uniting the World in Faith!
Jehovah’s Witnesses Hold Global Virtual Event in 240 Lands, 500+ Languages

Breaking a century-old tradition in the name of health and safety, the largest convention organization in the world has moved its annual in-person event to a virtual format for the second time in as many years, cancelling nearly 6,000 conventions in 240 lands.

Since 1999 city officials and hotels warmly welcomed thousands of Jehovah’s Witnesses into Columbus as they held their summer conventions at the Columbus Civic Center. In 2020, the pandemic unexpectedly interrupted that tradition moving the international religious organization to cancel in-person conventions throughout the world and launch a global virtual event. This was a first for Jehovah’s Witnesses, who have held public conventions in stadiums, arenas, convention centers, and theaters around the world since 1897.

“Powerful by Faith!” is the theme of the 2021 global event, which will be delivered in more than 500 languages to households throughout the globe over six weekends during July and August 2021, uniting some 15-20 million people in 240 countries. Since the convention is typically held from Friday through Sunday, the program will be available in six installments corresponding to morning and afternoon sessions. “Friday” morning’s session will be available for streaming or download beginning June 28, 2021.

Ruby Harris of Columbus, GA comments, “The first time I was invited to a convention of Jehovah's Witnesses more than 30 years ago, my first thought was, 'who wants to go sit all day and listen to someone talk about the Bible'. I would later learn what a joyful, spiritually encouraging, learning experience these conventions proved to be. Being among the smiling faces of friends, old and new, is a highlight of my summer. True appreciation for such an occasion comes only thru personal experience.”

Bill Allen of Columbus, GA comments, “The convention is a real joyful occasion for my family. Some of our fondest memories as a family are from the annual events. I’ve been closely involved with our conventions since they began here in Columbus. One highlight besides the program itself is reconnecting with my ‘convention family’ that I only get to see once a year at our annual gathering.”

The continued risk of bringing thousands of people together in cities around the world prompted the organization to opt for a virtual platform for the second consecutive year. However, the move has not curbed the enthusiasm for the annual event. Congregations around the world are inviting the public to join them in this
historic occasion

“Faith has helped our global brotherhood to continue to thrive even during a pandemic,” said Robert Hendriks for Jehovah’s Witnesses. “Our faith will continue to unite us in worship – even virtually – as millions gather in private homes around the world to enjoy a powerful and inspiring spiritual program.”
