DeKalb Police Chief David Byrd confirmed United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in DeKalb Tuesday.

“We have confirmed that there has been some ICE activity in the city of DeKalb,” Byrd said. “We found that out early this morning … We don’t know anything more than that.”

The confirmation comes after multiple reports of ICE agents spotted in and around DeKalb.

NIU declined to give a statement on the issue.

On Saturday, NIU football (1-4, 0-1 MAC) suffered a loss in its Homecoming game against the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (2-3, 1-0 MAC). While the Huskies held a promising start with a 76-yard touchdown on the first play of regulation, the Huskies were unable to hang onto their early lead.

“(We) started well, had a good first quarter, and then, from there, we couldn’t put four quarters together,” NIU Football Head Coach Thomas Hammock said. “(We’ve) got a lot to clean up; need to get better in a hurry, and that’s on me as the head coach.”

On Thursday, Coi Leray was invited by CAB to perform for a Homecoming Concert at the Egyptian Theatre. The line for entry spanned blocks and the theatre itself operated at maximum capacity as concert-goers aimed to be a part of the rare performance.

“It was a lot of energy here. The students were very hyped. They were very excited, you can tell. And then Coi (Leray) herself was just, she had so much energy and she was ready to perform,” said Kayla Reese, the trending chair for CAB.
