Turning 32 this week in somewhere this beautiful felt pretty good 🥳🎂🏕️

For the first leg of our road trip we drove north and camped just in front of the Grand Teton range.

The next morning we woke up, packed our bags and headed out to backpack the Cascade Canyon / Paintbrush Divide trail and spend two nights camping 🏕️ under the Tetons.

The irony of being scared of bears and then being so sad that we JUST missed seeing a Black Bear and her cub 🙄🙃 but we did see two bull Moose, many Pikas, a cute Marmot and lots of birds.

I thought Sky Pond was the most beautiful hike I’d ever done, until I looked back into the valley beyond Lake Solitude and felt like I was dreaming. A trip to remember forever and ever.

Ep.1 ☀️SGS☀️ Knitting a cardigan

This was the first time I touched knitting needles, read a pattern, and picked up some recycled wool to create something of my very own.

I chose recycled wool because I thought it was the most sustainable and ethical option. Though my thoughts go back and forth on the validity of this. So tbd.

Instead of a beginner pattern I went one more up to ‘easy.’ Spent a few hours watching tutorials. Then simply started.

I’m quite baffled as to how I created this on my first try, but then I remember all the hours I put in. The effort to unravel and re stitch, as well as trouble shooting.

Due to the amount of mistakes and fails throughout the process I learned even more than I could have imagined.

This is your sign to give yourself some grace

I think we often feel that if we’re not growing on social media, we’re not growing elsewhere. Or that if we’re lost and lack purpose that we’ll never find it again.

I’ve spent the past couple of years floundering, and unsure how to proceed. Not knowing where I would be in the world and how difficult that transition was going to be.

It has been a tough lesson, not to blame myself for things that were out of my control. But finding joy in learning new skills has brought me out the other side.

Let’s make seasonal salsa 🪴🌿

A little more casual video on the tomatillo salsa I made in my kitchen restock video! Im pretty chilled about the recipe but the rough amounts are below. Save for later!

Approx 10 tomatillos
2-4 jalapeños depending on spice level
6-8 garlic cloves
1 large white onion
Salt
Olive oil
Stems of a whole bunch of coriander
1/3 lime juice

Add tomatillos, onion, jalapeños, salt and oil to a pan, mix and bake for 20 mins at 425f.

Let cool, add to a food processor, add coriander, salt, lime and blend.

Store in a clean container in the fridge!

I used a pattern from and their 100% organic cotton yarn.

This took me probably around 40-50 hours (I lost count). And I learned so much from the process. Honestly I’m excited to keep pushing myself and trying harder and harder to create beautiful things.

It’s Earth month 🌎🌍🌏🌱

Although for me, Earth month is every month, I recognise that this is a great time to really showcase why living more sustainably, pushing for greener policies, supporting climate activism and so much more is incredibly important.

The stories I tell of vanilla, saffron, cinnamon and nutmeg all share horrifying parallels to the climate crisis. And this is why I tell them.

Moving beyond just zero waste swaps, and food, I wanted to give more.

Finding your place online or in sustainability / climate can be difficult. But there’s a space for everyone to use their skills in a way that allows them to shine.

It took me a while to get to this place. I floundered for a while last year not really talking about anything important. And then I found food history. I way to share important stories, through beautiful videos that also create a sense of calmness.

I guess that’s my niche. What’s yours?

Throughout Earth Month I’ll be sharing lots about sustainability, stories, personal upcycling projects and other creators doing amazing work.
