My dad grows this beautiful hibiscus plant. 🌺 It mostly looks like a tree with deep green leaves and thick wood stems. That is unless you happen to visit on a day when she decides to send a flower into bloom. Yes, her flowers are only this big bright and open, ready to spread her seed, for ONE day, and then it wilts back down to her limbs. Just imagine the amount of energy it must take for her to put it all out there and hope this is the time a special bee will come along and take some of her sweet pollen. We are taught to appreciate the beauty of flowers, but that’s the easy part, the flower is meant to be beautiful. What if we started teaching about the beautiful plants that just happen to also make flowers sometimes? It’s more in line with how us humans perform anyway. I am a beautiful person, but most days I am working hard just to get food, water, and sunshine. It is only the rare days when I have enough energy stored away and the weather is just right that I appear to bloom and shine, but just like the hibiscus it is short lived and I always wilt back into my home afterwards for a long rest. Just because my bloom is down doesn’t mean I’m no longer beautiful. My deep green leaves are lovely and delicate and most importantly sustaining. After all you have to make sure you’ve got a solid base before you could ever manage the energy to bloom. What is your solid green base? Mine is water, vegetables, positive self talk, sunshine, and sleep. 🌻
