Bridge of Sighs - Venice, Italy

Bridge of Sighs, enclosed limestone bridge in Venice, Italy, spanning the narrow canal (Rio di Palazzo) between the Doge’s Palace and the prisons. Commissioned by the doge Marino Grimani, whose familial coat of arms is depicted in the centre of the facade, the Baroque-style bridge was built about 1600 by the architect Antonio Contino. The enclosed passageway was named for the “sighs” of the prisoners who passed over it. Tradition holds that if a couple kisses while passing underneath the bridge in a gondola, they will enjoy eternal love. -Britannica-

Meet the African Penguin!
Once called the “Jackass Penguin” for its donkey like bray, this bird is the only penguin that breeds in Africa. They call home 25 islands and a few mainland sites between South Africa and Namibia and nowhere else in the world. Sadly their numbers have dropped by almost 90% in the last century, and they’re now endangered. Here at Stony Point, one of the largest colonies thrives with around 2,000 breeding pairs.

Votive Church, Vienna, Austria — The Lounge View

This was my first trip to Austria — a country that quickly became one of my favorites. Now, after half a dozen visits, each time I return, I find something new to fall in love with.

On this particular trip, I was part of the crew for the show Living Abroad. Every city meant a new hotel, often far beyond the standard accommodations. Lounge access wasn’t just a perk — it was a smart way to keep the crew happy, the talent comfortable, and costs in check. After all, a tired crew doesn’t want to explore after a long day; they want a quiet place to grab a snack, sip a beer, and rest up for another 14-hour marathon of lugging gear through foreign streets.

That day in Vienna had been one for the books: shooting inside Mozart’s residence, wandering the vibrant food markets, narrowly avoiding arrest on the steps of parliament, and nearly being hit by a train. Austria had already stolen my heart.

That evening, back at the hotel lounge, we wound down with cold Pilsner Urquells in hand, trading stories and laughter. My camera, as always, was close by — and this shot became the perfect way to capture how day one in Vienna came to a close: exhausted, exhilarated, and completely in love with this place.
