White tile changing color
In December of 2025 we had a contractor redo our bathroom. They moved forward using an orangish grout (not current issue) that we did not choose or approve of.

At the time of this post (June 2026) some of the white tiles are changing color to grayish. From what I’m reading online seems like this could be an installation error with the thinset, or potential ongoing water damage issue.

I have zero knowledge when it comes to tiling, so curious what options I have here, and if there’s a solution beyond ripping up and redoing.

Original Tiled entryway of 1913 Chicago Home
I work in a job where I get to see some really cool old woodwork and tiled floors! I’m not sure if this was originally from 1913 or if it was added later, or if it was covered with a different floor that accidentally kept it safe. But I’m guessing it wasn’t installed recently. I’d love to hear what you think!

Hairline cracks in shower floor grout
Some background- we had our bathroom redone a year ago and have unfortunately had ongoing issues with hairline cracks in our floor grout… to the point of crumbling grout that gets picked up by the vacuum. The company who did the work has come back to fix the grout, but I suspect the issue lies somewhere beneath the tile/sub floor, but I’m no expert. The latest concern is hairline cracks along the perimeter of the shower floor. It’s definitely not ideal given the water exposure but I’m at a loss at what to do. The contractor is coming back out to fix the shower floor, but I don’t have high hopes. Apart from tearing up the floor (gahhhh!) is there another material that is recommended? Siliconized grout, caulk? TIA!!

Photo reference: 1 is the ledge over the shower, 2 and 6 are bathroom floor grout, and 3-5 are the shower floor hairline cracks

Questionable transition
Hi all, I'm a homeowner swapping out a combination of tile and carpet on the ground floor of my house, replacing with all tile. Everything looks really well done elsewhere in the house, except for the transition in the master bedroom to the bathroom.

Our bathroom had been renovated and replaced with the whitish tile you see in the picture, and it had met carpet formerly in the bedroom.

Our tile guy assured us that the transition would be fine, and its common to have different tile in the bathroom. That being said, this does not look fine to my eyes.

What do you all think?

I fu**ed up. BadlyTried my hand at tiling my bathroom floor and it didn't go well as you can see. One of the pieces popped up when I stepped on it and noticed that all of them came up with much effort. I can clearly see I didn't put enough pressure to bed them correctly so now I need to rip this all up and start over. I am devastated, this is going to take so much work to fix. I'm really leaning towards just ripping all the way through the subfloor and just working my way up from there. Unless anyone has any better ideas?

I am running out to get Kerdi band for the seams.

For the love of God, I need some encouragement. I’m on the last leg of this bathroom renovation which started with popcorn ceiling removal and included a subfloor rebuild around the toilet.

Schluter kerdi band application, thin-set or mud?For those who do not use their All-set mortar, and go for alternatives, what do you use to waterproof the joints, screws and kerdi band with?

I have Mapei LFT mortar with polymer and Mapei Ultralight large tile mortar with polymer, would these work well for this application since this is what I’m using to install my tile on walls and floor?

I’ve also read people using mud for this, is that a good idea?
