Mixed-Use Development Planned Along 64th Avenue Near DIA

A new wave of projects is planned south of East 64th Avenue between N. Yampa and N. Salida Streets, combining retail, grocery, restaurant, and hotel uses across the block.

The proposals include Tower Plaza, a 35,000 sq. ft. mixed-use building with grocery and retail space plus a 4,000 sq. ft. restaurant/hotel-use building, alongside a 122-room Candlewood Suites hotel already approved for the site. Parking across the block will total more than 310 spaces (187 for Tower Plaza and 123 for Candlewood Suites).

Would a Ferris wheel help bring more people downtown?

The same team behind the concepts for a downtown gondola system and moving walkways has unveiled their latest idea: a 500-foot Ferris wheel along the South Platte at the base of 16th Street.

The “Rocky Mountain Eye” would feature 30 glass-encased cabins, heated for year-round use, offering panoramic views of downtown Denver and the Front Range. If built, it would become one of the tallest observation wheels in the country.
