🚨 Buyer Beware: Puppy Scams Are on the Rise 🚨
It’s that time of year again when puppy scammers seem to come out of the woodwork. Unfortunately, many are stealing puppy photos from reputable breeders and kennels, then creating fake pages or “new kennels” to pass those puppies off as their own.
At first glance, these listings can look very real — cute puppy photos, professional-looking pages, and even health certificates. But here’s an important thing every puppy buyer should know 👇
🧬 Health Testing Can (and Should) Be Verified
Scammers can steal photos and even copies of health certificates, but they cannot fake verification.
One of the easiest ways to protect yourself is by checking health testing through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) database.
✅ How to Check OFA Health Testing
You only need part of the registered name of the dog (sire or dam).
1. Visit the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) website
2. Enter part of the dog’s registered name
3. You’ll be able to see:
• What health tests were performed
• Whether the dog passed or failed
• A pedigree view
• Health testing on parents, siblings, and relatives
This transparency is something responsible breeders welcome — and scammers hope you won’t check.
🐾 A Reputable Breeder Will:
✔️ Encourage questions
✔️ Provide verifiable health testing
✔️ Be proud of their dogs’ registered names
✔️ Have a consistent, traceable presence
If something feels rushed, vague, or “too good to be true,” pause and verify.
Education is the best protection — and we share this so families can find their future puppies safely and responsibly 🤍
