Public Diplomacy in action!

Under the theme “Americans for Eritrea,” the - Bilateral Relations Campaign, which began on July 1, 2025, continues. To date, over 1,200 emails, 794 calls, and 378 letters have been delivered.

Accordingly, so far, 31 meetings have been held with Senators, Congressional representatives, and their respective staffers.

The above-mentioned introductory meetings were very productive and cordial. Follow-up meetings continue to be held in some cities. Way to go, team!

Message from the Ambassador
I am honoured to join the EU Delegation to Eritrea to lead a highly professional team with the objective of promoting EU-Eritrea relations and promoting and protecting EU interest and values in coordination with EU Member States. EU's commitment to Eritrea's stability, prosperity and democracy is long-term, and so is its determination to promote the region's closer cooperation and integration.
This commitment is based on EU's clearly identified strategic interests in the region related, among others, to fostering cooperation on issues of common interest, such as the promotion of peace and security and regional integration, enhancing economic cooperation, and the promotion and protection of human rights. These are interests that are here to stay and provide a solid foundation for continuous dialogue and future engagements. EU's efforts in Eritrea are aimed at contributing to the country's social and economic development, they follow local needs and strive to ensuring local ownership and sustainability.

EGYPT ― The Australian Ambassador to Cairo, accompanied by the Consul, paid a visit to the Embassy of the State of ‎ , where they were received by the Chargé d’Affaires, Mr. Aman Abdulwasie, and Mr. Habib Mohammed Osman.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the ongoing developments in the Horn of Africa region, particularly in ‎ .

The Eritrean side expressed concern about the situation in Ethiopia, noting that PM Abiy Ahmed is seeking to create tensions in the region by repeatedly declaring that “Ethiopia must obtain access to a seaport on the Red Sea.”

The Eritrean side affirmed that such claims have no basis in international law and contradict the principles of peaceful coexistence that should prevail among the countries and peoples of the region. They considered Abiy Ahmed’s statements as nothing more than an attempt to deflect attention from the escalating internal crises facing his country.

The Eritrean side also emphasized that Eritrea has long sought to foster an environment of coexistence and cooperation among the peoples of the Horn of Africa, and that it is taking necessary measures to safeguard its national security in light of the instability and regional turmoil.

The Australian delegation expressed its gratitude and appreciation to the Eritrean side for the detailed explanation and clarifications provided regarding current issues in the region, particularly with respect to the Ethiopian Prime Minister’s remarks on the Red Sea.

قام السفير الأسترالي بالقاهرة، برفقة القنصل، بزيارة إلى سفارة دولة إريتريا، حيث كان في استقبالهم القائم بالأعمال السيد/ أمان عبد الواسع، والسيد/ حبيب محمد عثمان.
وخلال اللقاء، تبادل الجانبان وجهات النظر حول تطورات الأوضاع الجارية في منطقة القرن الأفريقي، ولا سيما في إثيوبيا. وقد أوضح الجانب الإريتري أن الوضع في إثيوبيا يبعث على القلق، مشيرًا إلى أن رئيس الوزراء الإثيوبي، أبي أحمد، يسعى إلى خلق أجواء متوترة في الإقليم، من خلال إطلاقه تصريحات متكررة حول "ضرورة حصول إثيوبيا على منفذ بحري على البحر الأحمر".
وأكد الجانب الإريتري أن هذه الادعاءات لا تستند إلى أسس القانون الدولي، وتتعارض مع مبادئ التعايش السلمي، التي ينبغي أن تسود بين دول وشعوب المنطقة. واعتبر أن تصريحات أبي أحمد ما هي إلا محاولة للهروب من الأزمات الداخلية المتفاقمة التي تعيشها بلاده.
كما شدد الجانب الإريتري على أن إريتريا، ومنذ فترة طويلة، تسعى إلى ترسيخ مناخ من التعايش والتعاون بين شعوب منطقة القرن الأفريقي، وأنها تتخذ ما يلزم من إجراءات لحماية أمنها القومي، في ظل ما تشهده المنطقة من اضطرابات وفوضى إقليمية.
وقد أعرب الوفد الأسترالي عن شكره وتقديره للجانب الإريتري على الشرح الوافي والتوضيحات التي قدمها بشأن القضايا الراهنة في المنطقة، وخاصة ما يتعلق بتصريحات رئيس الوزراء الإثيوبي حول البحر الأحمر.

There is visible resurgence of reckless saber-rattling, accompanied by disdainful distortion of Eritrea's ancient, medieval and modern history, by Prosperity Party (or Potemkin Party, choose your pick) officials and trolls these days.

The trite arguments - or political hogwash so to speak - are too boring and fallacious to merit serious discourse. Latest one is on Eritrea's 1993 Referendum.

Let us underline, for the umpteenith time, the following fundamental (history, international law 101) facts:
1. Eritrea's right of decolonization - which should have been exercised in the 1940s - was and remains an inalienable and exclusive national political prerogative that is clearly enshrined in international law. This cannot be vetoed by, or require the endorsement of, any other country or international body.
2. The 1993 referendum was accordingly conducted through the unilateral choice and decision of Eritrea in accordance with established modalities. It was not, and could not, be predicated on the prior consent, endorsement or greenlight of the occupying power.
3. Eritrea's succinct response remains, in the words of PIA: "ዓዲ ወዓሉ"

President Donald Trump has sent a letter to President Isaias Afwerki, on July 30 this week, underlining that he is "reversing the negative, harmful damage of the Biden Administration around the globe".

In his message that also expresses appreciation for President Isaias' letter of Congratulations of November last year, President Trump referred to his Administration's readiness to re-establish a respectful and productive national relationship between the US and Eritrea "based on honesty, respect, and opportunities to improve peace and prosperity across the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea".

As it will be recalled, President Isaias had sent a warm message of Congratulations to President Trump in November last year on his "historic comeback and election as the 47th President of the United States of America...at a very crucial time when global peace is of paramount importance more than ever before".

President Isaias had at the time expressed his hopes that President Trump's "election will open a new chapter of fruitful and constructive ties of cooperation between Eritrea and the US".
