⏱️ Build a “Ten Minute Tower” with Traditional Lashings — Fast, Simple, Strong! 🪢🌲

A rapid-deploy scout or survival tower built with 8' and 10' spars and multiple lashings for rigidity. This is a fantastic project to practice pioneering skills and structural balance in under 10 minutes!

🛠️ How to Build It:

1. Gather Materials:

Four 10’ spars (vertical legs)

Eight 8’ spars (cross braces + rails)

Rope or paracord for lashings

2. Base Frame Setup:

Create two A-frames using Japanese Square Lashing at the tops and Tourniquet Lashing at the bases to secure the leg pairs.

3. Connect the Frames:

Use Figure-Eight Lashings on the middle rails to connect the A-frames horizontally. This forms a cube-shaped frame.

4. Add Cross Braces:

Lash diagonal braces using Filipino Diagonal Lashing for maximum side stability across all four faces of the tower.

5. Tighten Everything:

Pull and cinch all lashings tightly to avoid wobble. Confirm symmetry and firm stance on the ground.

6. Top Platform (Optional):

Add decking across the top rails or string canvas/rope if used as a lookout, cooking stand, or signaling platform.

The Transom Knot is a simple yet effective binding knot, ideal for securing two perpendicular poles or sticks. It's commonly used in scouting, lashing, and DIY projects where a quick-release fastening is needed.

Great for securing crossed poles & bundles

Easy to tie and untie

Useful for camping, survival & crafting

Pro Tip: For extra security, use a Double Transom Knot to prevent slipping under load!

From "The Ashley Book of Knots" which is the HIGHEST FORM OF AWESOME in which the author interviewed every single sailor, potter, artist, contractor, brickmaker, candle maker, etc etc. So he could create the very best book about knots, and he illustrated every single step, detail and was brilliant at explaining how the hands needed to look and process in order to create the knot. This is a rope ladder from his book 📖
