He and his business partner spent three years developing the Apehex automated pre-roll machine, eventually catching the attention of Raw Rolling Paper's founder Josh Kesselman. When Berner first started Cookies, he said he didn’t even know what he was building at the time. His early days combined a love of music with a deep immersion in cannabis culture, working in dispensaries, filming documentaries, and connecting with people from every walk of life.

He worked at The H**p Center in the early 2000s, befriending the cultivator who would later develop the signature Girl Scout Cookies strain. At the age of 18, he had his real immersion in the diverse cannabis culture of San Francisco.
