Employee Profile: Ben Wood
With just over a year as our Director of Client Partnerships, Ben's taken the events industry by storm. Let's hear first-hand about his first 14 months and what he's looking forward to ...
Q: Your background combines production (television) and sales (pitching to networks). How has that experience translated to working in the live events industry?
A: I was lucky to start in TV right out of college, but that often meant being the youngest person in the room. I quickly learned to manage pressure, lead big projects, and earn trust from both creatives and execs. It taught me to communicate vision clearly—and just as importantly, to ask the right questions. In live events, it’s similar: stay curious, align with our client’s vision, and bridge the creative and technical gap to deliver awesome events.
Q: Networking is a huge part of your role at Encompass. What’s been the best networking event you’ve attended?
A: One of my favorite networking events was a pre-IMEX gathering at Topgolf. It struck the perfect balance—easy conversations, a relaxed vibe, and just enough friendly competition to keep it fun. Plus, I got to drop a few bombs on the range—one even went straight.
Q: Speaking of networking, you were quickly adopted into the MPI family (congrats on your 2025 Board position!). Why should other industry professionals consider joining MPI?
A: MPI made it easy to plug in and feel part of the community right away. Like anything, you get out what you put in. When you show up, invest in others, and contribute, people tend to do the same. It’s a great way to build real relationships in the industry.
Q: You’re new to Colorado but have hosted tons of visitors. What’s one thing out-of-towners shouldn’t miss while visiting?
A: Red Rocks is obviously a must—but if you want to combine golf and Red Rocks, head to Arrowhead Golf Course. It feels like you’re playing on another planet. And for food, don’t miss the breakfast burrito at Odie B’s!
Q: Growing up abroad, you’ve experienced places and cultures most of us consider “dream vacations.” Where would you love to visit again?
A: Before moving to Russia for high school (where I met my wife), I lived in China and the Philippines. I’ve always wanted to take her to Asia and share her those parts of my life.
