What does it truly mean to belong?

Spears Books is proud to present "Living in the Middle: A Life Between Belonging and Becoming," a deeply moving new memoir by Dr. Samuel S. Dinga, out today, May 15, 2026.

Born a twin into a noble family in Bali Nyonga, Cameroon, Dr. Dinga was immersed in rich ancestral traditions. But his pursuit of higher education took him across the Atlantic to the serene, snow-covered streets of central Wisconsin.

In this heartfelt and honest reflection, Dr. Dinga shares his experiences of navigating the harsh realities of American life—enduring brutal winters, deciphering the US healthcare system, confronting systemic racism, and raising a biracial family in the Midwest. Living in the Middle is a powerful testament to the challenges of assimilation and the realization that true belonging isn't tied to a single place, but woven from the vibrant fabric of our lived experiences.

Is the vibrant history of small indigenous cultures destined to fade in our rapidly changing world? Prof. H. Sama Nwana argues otherwise.
Coming May 15 from Spears Books, Roots and Renewal: Preserving Bali Nyonga Culture in a Changing World is a powerful exploration of the religion, festivals, and traditions of the Bali Nyonga people. But more importantly, it's a global call to action. Safeguarding indigenous heritage isn’t just for anthropologists—it requires intentional policies and courageous community leadership.

Celebrate National Poetry Month with Spears Books!

As we celebrate the final days of National Poetry Month, we want to hear from the heart of our community—you.

Our authors have shared their voices with us through work, and now we’d love to see which of those voices resonated most with you. We are inviting our book club members to participate in a "Flash" Fan Reading to help us close out April with a bang.

How to Participate:
It’s simple, quick, and a wonderful way to support the poets you love.
1. Pick Your Favorite: Choose one or two poems from your favorite Spears Books collection.
2. Go Live or Record: Take 2 minutes to record a video of yourself reading the poem, or go live on social media to share it with your friends.
3. Tag & Share: Tag and use the hashtag .

Not camera-ready? No problem! Simply post a photo of your favorite stanza or a "shelfie" with your poetry collection and tell us why those specific words moved you.

Poetry is meant to be shared, and there is no greater compliment to a poet than hearing their work read by a reader who truly "gets" it. Let’s fill the digital space with poetry before the month is up!
