In 1987, a Denver vet and his wife set a donation jar on the counter for a stray named Max. Heād been hit by a car and needed more surgeries than anyone could reasonably pay for. The jar filled. Nearly forty years later, that jar is a whole city block.
This month we spent time with True Companions Animal Shelter & Clinic, the shelter you might still know as MaxFund. They have eight vets, 800 volunteers, and one rule they wonāt bend: no animal is put down to make room. They take the hoarding cases, the dogs pulled from the LA fires, and the pup shot and left for dead in the San Luis Valley. Then they keep every one of them until somebody comes home for them.
Their biggest night of the year is Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Four Seasons Hotel Denver: Game of Homes. Whiskers are coming. š¾ If you canāt make it, the silent auction is open to everyone online from Oct. 13 to Oct. 17.
