A little tea. A little quiet. A little perspective.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much pressure we put on ourselves to constantly produce, achieve, improve, optimize, and push forward. Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is pause long enough to hear ourselves think. (I LOVE think time!)

Not every season is about acceleration.

Some seasons are about reflection.
Some are about recovery.
Some are about deciding what deserves your energy moving forward.

Today (after a little golf) I’m choosing tea, a slower pace, and a little breathing room.

What are you choosing for yourself this weekend?

I think a lot of people are calling themselves “burned out” when what they may actually be is overextended and there is a difference.

Burnout often comes after prolonged depletion. Overextension is what happens when too many responsibilities, expectations, emotions, and obligations are competing for the same finite energy.

I know that feeling personally -- when nothing is technically wrong, though your brain is tired, your patience is shorter, and even small tasks feel heavier than they should.

That’s what inspired this She Rises Daily episode:
🎙️ 443: You’re Not Burned Out, You’re Overextended.

Maybe the answer isn’t pushing harder. Maybe it’s reevaluating what’s asking too much of you.

Last week: facilitating leadership sessions, reading the room, moving energy, adapting on the fly, and running on purpose, adrenaline, and caffeine. 😂

This week: sitting in a virtual all-day training as a participant for four straight days and WOW… I forgot how exhausting it is to be on the other side of the screen.

And to top it off… we are only an hour and a half into DAY TWO and I am already mentally drafting my own rescue mission. 😆

It’s been a good reminder, honestly. Even great facilitators can have a style that just doesn’t match your learning rhythm. Slow pacing, repetition, wide ranges of experience in the room… and suddenly your nervous system is whispering, “Wait. Why aren’t WE driving this thing?”

There’s something valuable about experiencing participant fatigue again, though. It reminds me how important energy, pacing, engagement, movement, and variety really are in learning spaces.

Also reminds me to have a little extra compassion for every participant who has ever survived breakout room #12 while silently wondering what year it is.

Words change worlds… and apparently so do four consecutive days on Zoom. 🤔

Real life check-in:

This season has been full: good things, real things, demanding things, exciting things and a reminder that capacity matters. (For the record, Keebler, as cute as he is, is a demanding thing)🐕🐾😍

Not every week is a "crush your goals" week.

Some weeks are about regrouping, catching your breath, protecting your energy, doing what matters most, and letting everything else wait.

That counts too!

What if the issue isn't burnout? What if it's overextension?

I've had weeks where nothing was technically "wrong," yet I could feel I was stretched toooooooo thin. My brain was tired, my already impatient self was even shorter on patience, I had less margin, and the spark I usually have was dim.

Sometimes we don't need an overhaul. Sometimes we need to tell the truth about how much we are carrying and what it's costing us.

That's why I recorded a recent She Rises Daily episode on this topic.

You are not weak, you're probably overloaded and overextended.

I spent several hours over the past 6 weeks facilitating virtual DiSC sessions with a small team in Hawaii.

Today, I received a giant bag of pineapple gummies (yes… shaped like pineapples 🍍) and a handwritten card filled with the kindest notes.

Here’s what I keep coming back to; you never really know what lands with people.

…The questions you ask.
…The pause and space you allow.
…The moment you encourage someone to speak.

It might feel small in the moment, but it rarely is. Sometimes, it stays with people longer than you’ll ever know… And sometimes, it finds its way back to you in the sweetest ways.

A lot of people think they need more motivation. I've learned that sometimes what we actually need is less depletion.

Less overcommitting ourselves.
Less carrying what isn't ours to carry.
Less saying 'yes' when we really mean 'no.' Less being everything for everyone.

There have been seasons in my own life where I didn't need a pep talk; I needed permission to put some of the burden down - to stop carrying what wasn't meant for me to carry. (and yes, I used an em dash and YES I wrote this all by myself).

Growth is not always about adding more. Sometimes it's about removing what keeps sucking your energy.

What's one thing you may need less of right now?

Reminder: disappearing for a season to focus, heal, create, work, rest, or recalibrate is allowed.

You do not owe constant visibility to be valuable.

Some of your best chapters will be written quietly.

I’ve been building something new behind the scenes. It's not another “fix yourself” program.

It's certainly not the same old hustle wrapped in prettier branding like so many are doing.

This is something deeper, more practical and very much being designed to help women rise in the areas that matter most.

More soon… but let’s just say growth is rarely one-dimensional.

Plot twist: pickleball has taught me as much about leadership as any boardroom ever did.

Pressure.
Partnership.
Recovery after mistakes.
Energy.
Trust.
Reading the moment.
Knowing when to reset.

There may or may not be something brewing around this idea… 👀🏓

❓Would you read a book on leadership lessons from pickleball? ❓
