Exciting Announcement:
The 42nd Annual Hispanic Christmas Symposium will host the official unveiling of the very first project under Rooted in Legacy curated by Marisa Laura Photography
This exclusive photo gallery honors heritage, celebrates culture, and tells the powerful stories of farm workers through art and light. Attendees will be the first to view the collection, and gallery prints will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the Michigan State University CAMP Program — supporting farm worker students as they pursue higher education and brighter futures.

Special Feature:
One featured print — beautifully framed and matted — will also be available in the symposium’s silent auction. Your support not only brings meaningful art into your home, but also helps uplift students and families who deserve every opportunity to succeed.

Join us as we celebrate legacy, resilience, and the power of community on December 10, 2025. 💚📷

The Casa Latina program provides hands-on, experiential learning in both English and Spanish so that you gain a degree that’s valuable for your career. You may already have a foundation that incorporates both languages into your life. Through the Casa Latina program, we strive to leverage that experience and prepare you with the skills and knowledge to realize your professional aspirations.

The 42nd Annual Christmas Symposium is only 20 days away. The history of the Symposium is well known as it has always been my favorite evening of the year right next to DDLM. This year our sponsor is the Michigan State University Federal Credit Union with all proceeds going to the MSU Camp Program.

This year is a little different as we switch to a fundraiser where all proceeds go to the MSU Camp farmworker students. The venue will be at the MSU Federal Credit Union located at 3777 West Rd in East Lansing. The cost of the ticket covers dinner, dessert, drinks (open bar), and entertainment. Residents in Southwest Detroit are working to preserve the community’s Latino history by documenting stories of people who grew up there. Their oral history project is called VOCES, which is Spanish for voices.

“Our history has not been documented the way other communities have documented their history,” said VOCES project committee member Martina Guzmán.

VOCES has been collecting oral histories from natives of Southwest Detroit. As part of the project, Henry Ybarra talked about his father, Henry Ybarra, Sr., sharing that he worked at a Detroit restaurant in the old Fort Shelby Hotel. The following video gives you an 8 minute glimpse as to their progress with the project.

As part of our “Destination Detroit” series and in recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re shining a light on people who have made Southwest D...

Highlights of this recent article from CNN with link in the comments section.

The growing Latino community in the United States reached a record of over 68 million in 2024, according to Census Bureau figures. This means its population is larger than that of countries such as Spain, Canada, and any other in Latin America except Brazil (over 211 million) and Mexico (130 million).

Historically, the Mexican population has been the largest Hispanic group in the United States. In 2024, they totaled 38.9 million (11.5%), a significant increase compared to the 35.9 million counted in 2020, according to Census data.

Second are Puerto Ricans, with 6.1 million (1.8%); followed by Cubans with 2.9 million (0.9%), Salvadorans with 2.7 million, and Dominicans with 2.5 million as of last year.

I would like to invite you to join us on the evening of Wednesday, December 10, 2025, for the 42nd Annual Greater Lansing Hispanic Christmas Symposium with Michigan State University Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) as our lead sponsor and host.

This year's event carries a special urgency. For the past 25 years the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) at Michigan State University has been federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education. CAMP has empowered hundreds of students from farmworker families to succeed in higher education and beyond. However, the current grant has not been renewed, placing this nationally recognized program and its life changing impact at risk.

We are honored to announce that MSU President Kevin Guskiewicz will deliver special remarks reaffirming the university's commitment to CAMP and its mission.

Lastly, plenty of ways to support the CAMP program with multiple sponsorship packages. Don't forget to purchase a ticket as this will sell out with a 200 capacity. Please don't hesitate to ask for more information or with any questions that you may have.
