The Old Coupland Inn and Dancehall will close its doors Oct. 11, marking the end of an era for a stage that once drew icons like Pat Green, Kevin Fowler and the late Stevie Ray Vaughan.

The historic country music establishment — built in 1904 — will be donated after its farewell show to Foundation Stone Wellness, an Elgin-based mental health and rehabilitation center.

🗞ELGIN UPDATE🗞
City officials announced Wednesday that Wayne Reed has declined an offer to become Elgin’s next city manager. One of four finalists named last month, he reportedly told city leaders the move was not the right fit for him and his family.

When asked whether the city is still considering its other finalists or moving in a new direction, officials said only that the council is “discussing their options.” The city is expected to announce its next steps within two weeks.

City Manager Finalist Fired, Council Session Tonight

One of Elgin’s finalists in its search for a new city manager was fired from her current post in Virginia last week, but city leaders are not saying how it might affect the hiring process.

Officials had no comment Monday when asked if they were aware of the termination or if it would sway finalist evaluations.

City Council is scheduled to meet in a called work session Aug. 12, with city manager recruitment and contract negotiations on the agenda.
