Max Goes to the Farm
by Nicole Marks

Before Maxwell became the fearless little explorer he is today, his world was small, cold, and lonely. Inside a crowded shelter in South Carolina, Maxwell waited behind metal bars, watching families walk past without a second glance—until one day, when Noel walked in, and everything changed.
At that moment, a bond formed that would transform Maxwell’s life forever. No longer a shelter dog, he became Noel’s loyal companion, ready to embark on a lifetime of adventure. In Max Goes to the Farm, Max sets off on his very first journey beyond the shelter walls to the rolling pastures and lively barnyard animals at Happiness Barn!
Join Max as he sees the world with fresh eyes, embraces his new life, and begins the adventures of a lifetime—from the countryside to the sea and beyond.

📣 “Book #3 just published with Luminare Press! I couldn't be more pleased.
Each experience has been a delight from book #1 in 2015, book #2 in 2018, and now 2025.
The Luminare staff are skilled professionals. With each book I've received detailed information on the process—from the contract, to the questionnaires, to the final proofing. With everything so clearly explained, I had few questions and they were promptly answered.
The Zoom workshops Luminare staff present are well worth your time whether you're a first time author or published many books.
I would be happy to recommend the Luminare team to anyone wishing to self-publish. I am grateful for all the hard work Patricia, Claire, Kim, Caitlin, Sallie, and Christine put in on Dear Nora. I couldn't be more pleased with the result! Thank you!"

Early Tales from Behind the Walls of Terror
by Val Zolfaghari

Set in the years before, during, and just after the Islamic Revolution, Early Tales from Behind the Walls of Terror is a collection of stories intimately depicting the lives of Iranian people—their heritage and spirit, their remembrances and regrets, their suffering and resilience throughout a toxic religious and political upheaval.

This collection is dedicated to the lives of honest, patriotic Iranian men, women, and children who opposed Khomeini’s dictatorship, put their lives in danger, were executed, became refugees, and endured poverty. Author Val Zolfaghari’s love for his land and its people still lives in his heart in the diaspora.

You’ve done the hard part—you wrote a magical children’s story that you can’t wait to share with the world. But now comes the next step: finding just the right illustrator to bring your words to life.

For many first-time picture book authors, this part feels overwhelming. Do you pick someone who’s drawn your exact setting before? Should they specialize in rainforests if your book includes one?

Here’s what award-winning illustrators Chantelle and Burgen Thorne want you to know: Choose based on style, not subject matter. Most artists can paint anything. What matters most is how their aesthetic fits your story’s emotional tone. Light and quirky tale? Go for an illustrator whose work radiates that mood, even if they’ve never drawn your exact scene.

Ask yourself: Does their style make me feel what I want my readers to feel?

It’s okay to reach out, ask questions, and have a conversation. That early rapport can shape the entire project—and make it so much more fun.

What do you look for when envisioning a collaborator for your creative work?
