THAT ONE TIME WHEN AUGUSTA BBQ WAS SERVED AT THE WHITE HOUSE. 🇺🇸

Long before food photos, viral restaurant reviews and social media…

Augusta sent a little taste of home all the way to the President of the United States.

In 1980, Larry Sconyers packed up the barbecue and headed to the White House, where Sconyers Bar-B-Que served President Jimmy Carter and members of Congress.

Pork. Chicken. Ribs. Beef.

And, of course, hash and rice and sweet tea.

Sconyers had started as a small Peach Orchard Road barbecue restaurant opened by Claude and Adeline Sconyers in 1956.

Twenty-four years later, Augusta barbecue was being served at the White House.

That’s a pretty good Augusta story.

THERE’S A RESTAURANT ON WASHINGTON ROAD YOU COULD DRIVE PAST AND NEVER REALIZE IT’S THERE. 👀

No dining room.

No servers.

And not even the kind of menu you’d expect from a traditional restaurant.

It’s called The Food Lab, and the Augusta concept works as a “ghost kitchen”—a commercial kitchen where owner Ramiro Galvan can experiment with different dishes, see what Augusta likes and change things up without operating a traditional restaurant.

Orders are placed online for pickup or delivery.

It opened earlier this summer, but we’re curious how many people around Augusta even know it’s there.

IF YOU SPENT YOUR FRIDAY NIGHTS AT RED WING, THIS PICTURE PROBABLY COMES WITH A SOUNDTRACK. 🛼

The lights were low. The music was loud. Everybody was circling the rink — until the DJ announced couples skate and suddenly things got interesting. 😂

For a generation of Augusta kids and teenagers, Red Wing Rollerway wasn’t just somewhere to skate.

It was Friday night.

It was friends.

And it was trying your best not to wipe out in front of everybody.

Kay-Bee Toys was dangerous territory for an Augusta kid in the ’80s and ’90s.

You’d tell your parents, “I just want to look.”

Five minutes later, you were holding a toy and presenting a full business case for why you absolutely needed it. 😂

And somehow, even if you left empty-handed, walking through Kay-Bee was still part of the mall experience.
