This week may have been one of the worst, but death metal is eternal healer. I am thrilled to show you all one of the sickest death metal demos you’ve never heard – Altered Faith Disorder by Hazarax.

Hazarax’s sole 1990 demo Altered Faith Disorder is one whose place in metal history should be noted. Equal parts devastating death metal and furious thrash - all topped off with vocals that would give Strapping Young Lad’s “Oh My Fu***ng God” a run for its money - Hazarax was exhaustingly brutal.

After a series of bassist changes between 1987 and 1989, Hazarax landed on their final lineup of vocalist Jack Gannon, guitarists Ron Wojcik and Jason Hildebrand, bassist John Boyd, and drummer Russ Gale. Hazarax’s shows mainly centered around Levittown, PA, though one of their biggest moments came in the rehearsal room.

Hazarax met Sepultura during their Beneath The Remains tour where Max and Igor Cavalera agreed to come watch the band practice. The legendary Brazilian brothers loved what they heard and introduced Hazarax at a gig, lending an air of stardom to the upstart band.

Hazarax would go on to open for bands like Cannibal Co**se, Immolation, Incantation, Suffocation, Brutal Truth (all at the G. Willikers venue in Pennsauken, NJ) though the Hazarax name wasn’t long for this world.

Hazarax ultimately changed their name in 1990 to Cemetery Earth now Gannon, Wojcik, and Hildebrand alongside bassist Chris Gatto and drummer Chris Kwiatkowski - and released one demo named Here Rest Remains From Centuries Of Demise in 1992. Though legend has it that there’s still a Cemetery Earth full-length recorded in the mid-90s, shelved... waiting to rise from depths to annihilate each and every ear lent to it.

Know Death opened for Motörhead on their 1994 Bastards tour - and if they’re good enough for Lemmy, they’re good enough for your non-Lemmy ears too.

Check out the Embalmer Records reissue of Know Death’s 1993 demo Buried Alive NOW on all streaming services and Bandcamp! It’s got a whole live show as bonus tracks. Not this show, but still. It’s way good.

The live album you’re hearing on our reissue of Know Death’s 1993 demo Buried Alive has a really interesting story behind it!

The show was called Pick Your Knows, where fans were tasked with voting on which songs Know Death would record for their Buried Alive demo. What you’re seeing above is the actual ballot the band gave out prior to the show. Fans would check off the songs they liked, Know Death tallied ‘em up, and ultimately recorded the four fan favorites for their demo. Unfortunately the first song “Hagetha Wants Blood” couldn’t be salvaged from the original tape, as roughly the first half was totally cut off.

I also thought it was cool that the fans didn’t just vote for the first four songs they heard – clearly they were into it! I’m thrilled the band decided to include the show as a part of this re-release – it’s never been released in any format before, and people need to hear it! As great as the show sounds (and as great as the band played), I think the real star is the announcer between songs. Dude’s got no filter.

EMBALMER RECORDS IS HERE! I am thrilled to announce the first-ever reissue of Know Death’s sole 1993 demo Buried Alive. I hope you all enjoy this piece of unearthed death metal history. Truly. This is currently only a digital release, but I’m aiming to have physicals in hopefully late 2026.

The Embalmer Records reissue consists of all four songs from the original demo plus an unreleased show named Pick Your Knows from 1992 (minus the first song “Hagetha Wants Blood”, which sadly couldn’t be salvaged from the original tape). The concept for Pick Your Knows was simple enough – Know Death played all their songs, and the crowd in turn would vote on the songs they wanted to see get recorded for the demo. Hence the name of the show, Pick Your Knows.

The original Buried Alive demo was recorded, mixed, and produced at Sabella Recording Studios in Roslyn Heights, NY by Know Death, Jim Sabella, and Ken Gioia. The demo was also engineered by Know Death, Sabella, and Gioia. This reissue features newly-remastered audio by Esben Willems of Studio Berserk in Gothenburg, Sweden, and a new layout by Joseph Spiller.

A bit of trivia - all three bands I'm currently working with have never been available digitally, and have never been reissued in any capacity. All three only released one (awesome) demo each an then faded away.
