On December 16, The Classic was invited, along with other student journalists, to attend mayor Eric Adams’ Farewell Address and final press conference as mayor.

After Mayor Adams’s farewell address, he and NYC Public Schools Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos spoke with student journalists in a roundtable discussion. Classic Editors-in-Chief Ryan Chen and Yasmeen Ismail attended and received a turn to ask a question. They asked Chancellor Aviles-Ramos whether NYCPS has any plans to restore the partnership between THHS and Queens College, which is currently on “pause.” Chancellor Aviles-Ramos said, “I did have a meeting with your principal, who is a dear friend, Principal Condon, and I also had a meeting with Senator John Liu. Right now, we are working through those details. We are very happy that St. John’s stepped up, and that they are allowing for this [college bridge program] to move forward. I do know that right now the Queens College piece is on hold, but we are in the process of those negotiations, and we will definitely update you as we have more.”

The Classic will follow up on the status of these negotiations after the new mayoral administration takes over.
