The Townsend Harris community is mourning the sudden passing of history teacher Joseph Seidel. In an email sent informing students of the news on Sunday, Principal Brian Condon called Mr. Seidel a “beloved teacher” and said tomorrow’s schedule will be altered as the community begins “mourning Mr. Seidel’s passing.”

Steel Hawks compete at 2026 FIRST Championships

After receiving the Engineering Inspiration Award this April at the NYC Regionals, the Steel Hawks, the THHS robotics team, qualified for the FIRST World Championships. Earlier this month, 51 members traveled to Houston, Texas and competed. “Our expectations were to try our best within our division and get selected for playoffs. SU requires clubs hold elections to determine club leaders for 2026-2027 school year

Earlier this semester, the Student Union informed club leaders of the more than ninety clubs offered at Townsend Harris that they must hold elections for certain leadership positions for the 2026-2027 school year. While outgoing student leaders can continue to appoint a new club president, other positions will require elections. Club Liaison and junior Aki Benjamin said, “I want to make sure that clubs can continue to survive for a long period of time, which has been an issue, and I want to ensure that the most qualified people and the people who are going to make the club the best are the ones in charge.”...

Each year’s has a theme, and this year’s research focus is on “Journeys of Self Discovery.” Seniors chose from a variety of challenging literary works and analyzed them through their depiction of physical travels and allegorical expeditions of spiritual growth.
