San Bernardino County firefighters responded to 560 North D Street at 6:34 a.m. Sunday to discover flames engulfing a single-story boarded-up commercial building, located just a block away from the police headquarters.
Firefighters quickly managed to extinguish the fire, and upon entering the structure, they conducted a primary search, during which they discovered a deceased adult male inside.
The San Bernardino County Fire Office of the Fire Marshal is currently investigating the cause of the fire, and the identity of the deceased man will be disclosed by the San Bernardino County Coronerโs Office.
While it's unclear what the man was doing inside the building, a shopping basket could be seen on the property just outside of the building, suggesting that the victim may have taken shelter inside.
Initial damage estimates are around $1 million, and no injuries to firefighters were reported during the 30-minute firefight. Anyone with additional information about the fire is urged to contact the Fire Investigation Unit at 909-387-5723.
