Omar Cooper Jr. has officially declared for the NFL Draft, taking the next step after a standout college career — and doing so with deep ties to Fort Wayne.

Cooper’s roots trace directly back to Northeast Indiana. Both of his parents are South Side High School alumni. His mother, former Vnemina Reese, starred on the basketball court before going on to play at Michigan State. His father was a dual-sport athlete at South Side, competing in both football and basketball.

On our postseason episode of the Around the Fort podcast, we sat down with Bishop Luers standout Jarron Taylor.

He broke down what it was like lining up against Knox high school star Myles McLaughlin, who came within 363 yards of breaking Derrick Henry’s national high school career rushing record (12,124 yards) during the 2025 post season.

🏈 Recruiting Roundup | Northeast Indiana

The future is already being noticed as 8th-grader Jaydin Haller earns a Kent State offer ahead of his move to Northrop High School.

Kent State continues to make a strong push in Northeast Indiana, extending offers to Omarion Waites (North Side), Javontae Eldridge (Wayne), Camden Day (Northrop), Levi Portee (Northrop) and Ifeanyi Emedobi (Northrop).

Recruitment momentum keeps building across the region — Waites adds a Division I full-ride offer from Eastern Michigan, while Emedobi continues his rise with Division I offers from Cincinnati and Kansas following strong visits.

Northeast Indiana talent is on the radar — now and for what’s next. 👀🔥

A MESSAGE AND PREDICITONS FROM THE SIDELINE SWAMI:

Turban’s off to Angola and Fremont – my lake-country friends – for denying my douchery from a week ago with big-time semifinal wins. Now, can they back it up with sectional crowns tonight? I believe they can.

CLASS 6A
NORTHROP (8-2) at CARROLL (7-3): When these two met four weeks ago (a 48-37 Carroll win), it was arguably the most entertaining game in the GameNight regular season. I’m expecting plenty of fireworks, especially early on, before the Chargers put the game on ice after the break.
SWAMI SAYS: Carroll by 17

CLASS 5A
CONCORD (9-1) at NORTH SIDE (6-4): Player for player, the host Legends match up well in this contest. If the Minutemen have an edge it might be in the trenches, but don’t tell that to the big hunkies from The Nawf. In the end, I like the Minutemen in a hot minute to steal the show late.
SWAMI SAYS: Concord by 13

CLASS 4A
EAST NOBLE (11-0) at BISHOP DWENGER (9-2): The Saints have been licking their chops for this rematch after getting humbled 38-zip a year ago by the Knights. Clearly, EN is still a viable foe. But I don’t believe this K-ville crew is as talented as last year’s group. Gimme BD by two scores.
SWAMI SAYS: Dwenger by 11

CLASS 3A
GARRETT (6-5) at ANGOLA (6-5): Another classic sectional-title matchup pits the Railroaders vs. Angola at the Hornets’ nest. Garrett is seeking back-to-back sectional championships for the first ever. Angola, meanwhile, is looking for its first crown since the 2018 season. ‘Gola has a Hawk.
SWAMI SAYS: Angola by 4

BISHOP LUERS (6-5) at MISSISSINEWA (10-1): The SOS factor has to be a huge nudge in the Knights’ favor, especially if recent history is any indicator. I’m sensing a back-and-forth affair that culminates in Luers’ 29th sectional title as the SAC-toughened Knights advance once again.
SWAMI SAYS: Luers by 2

CLASS 2A
EASTSIDE (9-2) at ADAMS CENTRAL (11-0): A rematch from Week 2 (won by AC, 32-21), both teams have improved. It’s a matchup of two of the best junior QBs in the state – Eastside’s Job Richman vs. AC’s Jamison Roach – and whoever has the better night, wills his team to victory.
