Fort Wayne Writers Guild

Fort Wayne Writers Guild We’re a jovial, supportive writers community offering workshops, advice, inspiration, constructive “There is nothing to writing.

All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.”

― Ernest Hemingway

With all due respect to “Papa” Hemingway and his claim that “[t]here is nothing to [the process of] writing," The Fort Wayne Fiction Writers Guild was created for those of us who are passionate about writing but find a bit more to the process of creating great fiction than simply opening our veins and spilling our souls onto

a computer file through a frenzy of typing, a flutter of muted clicks like mice feet tap-dancing across the keyboard. We go by many names, Author, Playwright, Scribe, Novelist, Screenwriter, or Wordsmith, but essentially we at The Fort Wayne Fiction Writers Guild are Storytellers for whom writing is a serious calling rather than a mere hobby or interest. We offer a community of support, encouragement, advice, and inspiration for writers of all skill levels in the Fort Wayne/Northeast Indiana area who share this calling and who are dedicated to perfecting the art of fiction writing with the goal of getting his or her work published in legitimate professional venues. Meetings generally last about 2 hours and are either sessions designed to provide constructive feedback on members' work, and/or a workshop session aimed at a specific element of writing, such as "How to Write a Manuscript that Will Catch the Eye of a Literary Agent," "Using Mythic Structure for Storytelling," "Pros and Cons of Outlining/Or Is It Okay If I Don't Know How My Story's Going To End?" You get the idea. We welcome works-in-progress in all genres, novel, short story, magazine submission, screenplay, children’s book, young adult book, novella, stage play, teleplay. If you're serious about completing and publishing your work, and truly getting involved in the local writing community, this is the group for you.

Just at the Winter Solstice celebrates the return of the sun, the Writers Guild is celebrating a post-pandemic Renaissance with upcoming in-person meetings.
Wednesday, Dec. 7th:
ROUND ROBIN RENAISSANCE, where we take turns reading works in progress for encouraging feedback and discussion, from 7-9 pm at the Auer Center (300 E. Main St.). Sometimes we head over to JK O'Donnell's Irish Ale House afterwards to socialize.
Tuesday, Dec. 13th:
PUBS & PROSE 7-9pm at JK O'Donnell's (121 W Wayne St.), a modern day take on Hemingway's "moveable feast," which is purely a social gathering. That one is a great event for newcomers to dip their toe into our supportive community of friends who happen to be writers. Hope to see you.
Many Blessings and KEEP WRITING!
