Scars Mean Survival.
October holds a lot of meaning for me. Itās Pit Bull Awareness Month, which is at the heart of why Barktivist exists, but itās also Breast Cancer Awareness Month... a cause that hits much closer to home.
My mom and my oldest sister are both breast cancer survivors. My aunt lost her life to breast cancer, and I know so many other incredible women whose lives have been forever changed by this awful disease.
There is an incredible strength in women. But there is something especially powerful about the strength we find when weāre forced to face pain, adversity, and circumstances that feel impossible to overcome.
And in many ways, I see that same strength in pitties.
Bully breeds continue to face abuse, neglect, discrimination, and a stigma they never deserved. They are judged by what they look like rather than who they are. And despite everything theyāve endured, they continue to fight like hell to survive. To love. To trust. To give us the same loyalty and devotion theyāve been denied so many times.
Thatās where these two causes overlap for me.
Every year, I create a new Breast Cancer Awareness design that brings together my passion for advocating for pitties with my personal connection to breast cancer. This yearās design is a Barktivist exclusive, and Scars Mean Survival says exactly what I want it to say.
We all have scars. Some are visible, some aren't. Some tell stories of battles we never thought we'd win. But scars aren't proof that we were broken.
They're proof that we survived.
