With 90,000 annual aircraft operations, Frederick Municipal Airport is the second most active general services airport in Maryland. Private commercial transport accounts for a significant percentage of the activity, first initiated by Frederick Aviation and Majestic Air Services in 1978. Mike Davis, former co-owner of Frederick Aviation and former senior vice president of Majestic Air Service, looks back on the evolution of these businesses and the role they had in Frederick’s business development.

Shawn Hatosy is a busy man, in case anyone hasn’t noticed, and that’s not a bad thing. The Ijamsville native has lately been juggling a variety of acting and directing responsibilities in Hollywood, where steady work is never taken for granted.

Already boasting an ample filmography in movies and television over more than three decades, Hatosy, 50, is best known these days for portraying Dr. Jack Abbot on the critically acclaimed HBO Max series The Pitt, which follows the minute-by-minute drama of the emergency department staff at a fictional Pittsburgh hospital. Abbot is a skilled doctor wrestling with his own trauma as a military veteran and amputee, by volunteering as a SWAT physician.

Jim O’Hare calls it “selfless civic pride.” He was talking about the people of Downtown Frederick.

When O’Hare set out to turn the old Visitation Academy into a hotel, the families and residents on East Second Street stood to lose their quiet: years of construction, then a steady flow of guests where a cloistered convent had stood for generations. They backed it anyway, because it was good for Downtown Frederick.

Nothing like the swell of strings or the plaintive wail of a saxophone to stir up emotions. The wide rocking bench sitting in front of Matt Feltenstein’s East 3rd Street home puzzles some passersby who mistake it for a planter or something that shouldn’t be handled. The confusion led Feltenstein to put out a sign telling visitors it is OK to sit on the bench and rock a bit.
