Two Shirley parents were arrested Thursday night after a fight following a varsity flag football game at Wyandanch Memorial High School, Suffolk County police said.

Police said players from Wyandanch Memorial High School and Southampton High School became involved in a fight after the game at the school on South 32nd Street at about 6:15 p.m. Two parents then joined the altercation, one of who threatened school shooting, according to police.

What’s the secret ingredient for South Side’s turnaround softball season?

A heaping tablespoon of youthful exuberance served up by five fabulous freshmen.

“Our young energy definitely made everybody step up,” Cyclones coach Angelica Gargiulo said. “Our freshmen entered this year with such strong skill levels and a strong desire to play hard and win, I feel like it made everyone else take it up a level.”

Long Island has been home for the Ducks for 26 seasons in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB), and who better to add to a successful organization than a former CY Young Award winner?

Trevor Bauer signed with the Ducks on April 2, after pitching the last five years in Japan and Mexico. Long Island went 72-54 in 2025, as it looks to build upon last year’s success with speed and dominant pitching.

Students from Lynbrook High School came together to support a local family following a house fire, organizing a community car wash fundraiser through the school’s Key Club.

According to advisor Ben Tieniber, the effort was organized quickly after students learned about the incident. The family has strong ties to the community, with two children involved in local activities, including Key Club and Lynbrook baseball.
